Would like some opinions on boxes

Right now Ive got a Mac tools utility cart, Part #MB197UC-BL. Its starting to fill up very quickly and Ive got tools on top of tools in pretty much every drawer as well as the lower area quite full.
Ive been looking around at boxes and am liking the Snap-on Classic 78 and the Mac equivilent of that size box. However I don't really have the thousands of dollars needed for a box that size.
I was also looking at the add on drawers for the cart that I have, Part #MB197UCAD-BL.
Now my question is, has anyone got the add on drawers for a cart like that? and is it enough space to actually get a bunch more tools in?
Or would you go ahead and start saving for a bigger box like the Classic 78 or something similar?

I would look on Craig's List. there are lots of great deals on boxes right now, think less than half of what they originally cost.

I'll second the craigslist option. I'm not watching the really big boxes, but regular stacks are super cheap in Mac, Matco, and Snap-On. It may take a week or two to hit a great deal, but it's well worth it.

There's also a lot of love for the HF boxes on here and you may want to consider that option as a stop gap. It'll give you time to save up for one of those big shiny new truck boxes if nothing else.

I was in your shoes not long ago. I had a cart and filled it up. I looked around on c/l but didnt see anything I liked close to me. My dealer gave me a student discount and I ended up buying the new style classic 78. Now I have a big box but my tool buying has slowed down since now I have a box to pay for. I say look around and see whats out there and ask your dealer if he has any cheap trade ins or if hell toss you a student discount. I know mine always has pictures of stuff he has at the house. Classic 78 is a great entry level box.

I've been checking the local used sites around here and theres been pretty much nothing in the past month or so. I'm guessing with Christmas coming up there might be more on there soon though so I'll definitely keep my eyes open.
The Snap on dealer was in my shop today and had a Heritage series box on his truck and said he usually gets more trade-ins around this time. Wanted $1000 for what I'm pretty sure was a KRA2106. But pretty sure the add-on drawers would give me more space in my cart that I have now.

One other thing to remember when looking at boxes is for sale id to call your Snap on dealer and have him look up the serial number to make sure the party selling the box actually owns it. Guy in our shop bought a box of c/l and when he was talking to the SO guy about a warranty issue on it found out the guy who sold it never made the first payment on it.

Never thought of that before, thanks for the heads up. That could definitely end up being a big problem.
The Mac dealer for my shop was in today and has a pretty good deal coming up in the next couple of weeks. He's bringing in a couple of MB4290B boxes, one in orange and one in green. Really thinking about getting the orange one from him because it has the amount of space I would need for right now and is much easier to add on to then my cart. And its also much closer to my price range at this point in time.

I got my SO Master-series box as a repo. Ages ago..love that thing. Single dent in the side, 2mo, about $3200 under list price for the unit. Always asking toolguys about repos or tradeins can net you a deal on a reasonable box to start out, then you can find out what you like or don't like, and what you want from a box.

If you are looking for a classic 78 size box, look for a KRL722. Snap On has been running promos on these where they promise you minimum $2500 trade in for your box bringing the price to $2995. The dealer is only getting charged $2995 so you should be able to bargain harder on the trade in.

The 722 has a second full width drawer and is heavier duty. I sold three of them and all three customers were happy with them.

I have the classic 78 with two full length drawers. They didnt have any deals on the 722 when i got mine. Im still super happy with it.
