Would this be OK?

Hi all and thanks for the help. My garage was built in '86 and the people used it for parking cars, and washing them in the winter. The floor was never sealed, thus it has pretty decent spalling due to the salt that was washed from the cars.

My question is: would it be ok to use floor leveler to straighten it up, as I am going to do the floor in VCT once it is repaired?

I guess my thinking is that once the tile is installed over the leveler, the tile will "lock" the leveler into the "spalls". Am I on the right track here or out in left field? Thanks again.

The thin-set will take care of light spalling.

I like the Rust Oleum epoxy paste. Fast and sands up great.

You could use epoxy with a filler for a prime coat, then go over it with a second base coat. This should fill in any spalled areas.

Yes, fill those spots and level out the floor. Over time imperfections will "print" through the VCT, so deal with the problems now or live with them later.

And consider sealing the VCT with a quality epoxy to keep your new floor looking sharp with a minimum of maintenance.
