Would you buy this floor jack?

Hi there. I'm a simple schoolteacher/homeowner who owns a '99 Subaru Outback and '98 Ford Ranger and doesn't like paying the local shop to do repairs. As a result, I really need an upgrade from the "toy" Craftsman compact floor jack I've had for a few years. I found this jack on Craigslist:

model #328.12030 Sears Roebuck 2 ton hydraulic floor jack

I'm having a hard time finding anything out about this jack. Does anyone else own one? Does anyone know when/where it was made? The guy is selling it for $85. Is it worth it, or should I wait to find something better (or, even, just shell out $90 for a Harbor Freight Rapid Pump 2.5 ton jack)?

Thanks for the help in advance.

keep the floor jack you have for Subaru, and buy floor jack that goes up high for the truck.

I am assuming you already have floor jacks?

I would spend the $20 and buy a new craftsman 3 ton. There are coupons all the time and you can get it close to that used price. Yea it's import but works.

Arcan 3.25 ton from Costco for $99? I use it on my (lowered) Subaru Forester and a Chevy Suburban. Great for both!

OK...thanks for all the advice. I'll pass on the jack. But does anyone know where/how to date it?

I'm pretty sure that is an older Lincoln or other USA made jack, just with a sears badge on it. If it works like it should and doesn't leak a drop I think $50-$80 is fair. Looks like the PO went over it with a spray can.

Those comparing this to the modern sears jacks, apples to oranges IIRC. Wait for a member "Hiball" to chime in, he is the resident jack expert.

I suspect that jack was actually made in Japan, and was originally a green color. I have a 1 1/2 ton one, bought new from sears in the 70's. It gets used a ton, and is a very good jack. $85 might be a little steep, would think $50-$75 would be more realistic.

Its a import, definitely not US manufactured.

What do you think a good price for it would be?

Has it been rebuilt? Or did the owner just put a fresh coat of paint on it? IMO.. $50 bucks if it works as it should, doesn't show any leakage or serious signs of rust/pitting on the ram or pump piston.

Just a coat of paint. Thanks for the info and time. I'll contact him and see if he'll take $50.

The 2.5 ton low profile HF jack has coupons out all the time for $70-$75. I own it. Put a good amount of miles on it and it continues to impress me. Id pick it up in a heartbeat over a used CL jack with a questionable history.

My vote is for the Harbor Freight Rapid Pump 2.5 ton jack. I've owned the 3-ton Craftsman for eight years or so, and it is just okay. I've also owned a Craftsman aluminum jack for a couple of years now, and it is a total *************. A few months ago I bought the HF 2.5-ton rapid lift and couldn't be happier. I used to have to use the aluminum jack to get under my car, then raise it enough to fit the 3-ton under, because the aluminum jack wouldn't lift high enough to put my car on my craftsman jack stands. The HF solved that problem and has worked flawlessly.

Is your crafstman aluminim jack low profile with a red paint job? My buddy has said jack and it without a doubt the biggest turd of a jack I've ever laid eyes on.

Thanks for all the input. THIS one (3 ton HF) is $79.99 this week. Is 18 1/4" lift enough to use under a Ranger?
