I cant imagine my dad or his dad talking about colour of toolboxes. How times have changed they might have talked about quality and definetely the cost but the colour never.

purple is a hell of a lot better than lime green. never understood why someone would want a lime green tool box. Giant eyesore in my opinion.

Check the rust. Colour doesn't matter, and it will go with Green and Yellow anyway.

But check the rust, how bad it is and what is needed to repair it. Having a box at twice the list price is no good if it falls apart on you.

Its not really bad. I just noticed the paint lifting a little at the very bottom of the left verticle support were the support meets the bottom rail. As I ran my finger across it, you could tell the culprit was a little rust behind it. About a 2"x2" section.
Im still trying to decide what to do. I would like the space and layout.

Sounds like your biggest issue then is the paint color. If you don't want a purple box you will never be completely happy with it. If it is a 2"x2" square of rust your worried about, as long as this box is stored inside you should not have a whole lot of issues with the rust, but check inside the bottom of the tool box and see if it is just the one spot or if the inside bottom of the box is rusty also. Purple is not a bad color but people have different preferences and if you don't like the color then you probably will never be completely happy with it. If the space is more important then that is a lot more space than what you currently have and need to realize it is probably a pretty good deal from a space standpoint.

That is a great box, go for it. Slap a small vikings sticker on it and no one will even say a word. A 2x2" rust spot under the paint would not bother me, grind it down, fill it, mask it off and spray it.

Now that I see that box, I could easily live with it in my garage. Being from Wisconsin I would prefer Green and Yellow though.

I actually have a purple toolbox, 1994 vintage, but none the less. Mine is a Matco "Street Rod Edition", it is Cuda Plumb Crazy Purple.

I never understand why guys have such an issue with colors. I'd own just about anything in any color, as long as it looked good on it. Pink car? Sure, it had better be an old caddy though...

I thought it was blue too! I drove 100 miles one way to trade and discovered it was purple when I got there. The only thing the guy mentioned about the color is that the camera didnt capture the color right....


More than likely Im gonna go back and trade with him though. I've been thinking of adding a couple pinstripes to it to kinda break up the purpleness. On the big drawer at the bottom left and probally around the corners of the case.

Get in contact with this guy and have him make a vinyl mopar decal racing stripe and wrap it around that box. That will give you the plumb crazy look. Go white or black with the RT. Just an idea if you get the box.

That looks blue to me instead of what I was expecting for purple. I kinda like the blue . . .

I traded him and it seems like I did alright. Over double the money and almost double the storage space. Wouldn't have been my first color choice but oh well. I could always repaint it once I get out of school.

Color is always a matter of personal preference. I'm no fan of "purple," but that tool box looks almost navy blue to me. True purple tends to border pink on the color scale in my opinion. I tend to always buy things with an eye toward how easy or difficult it would be to sell eventually. I think purple is one of the least favorite colors for most people, but then in this case, maybe a little salesmanship like calling it navy blue might help.

I'd go for the purple. Functionality first. And if you really want, put a bunch of stickers on it...

I wouldn't worry about the color of the box. I bought mine because it was a great deal and gave me enough storage. I was not crazy about the lime green and the kids nick named it "Kermit" but it was cheap....

Who would have thought that several years later, it's a "hot" color for toolboxes.

By the way, the color will grow on you over time. I find myself looking for green tools now, I think it's a sickness.

He was asking $1,800 for it and I thought that was a steal, but after telling him what I had to trade, he decided my smaller box was better suit his garage so be basicly traded even. I just had to cover the transport and swap.
