Would you pay 40 bucks for this Proto 9997?

This just came my way but I'm at tool box capacity. Something would have to go...

What do you guys think? Would you cough up 40 clams for this? I'd have to drive an hour each way to get it.

If I didn’t have this darn Heritage stack in my garage, I would be all over that.

I'd love to have that box; I'd easily give $100. I think that's identical to my Williams box, and I had a Duplex that was identical to it also. I think Proto originally had their boxes made by Duplex, and then bought them out.

1970 PROTO catalog shows that chest as #9997. List price was $85.11.. It is about 12" deep and 26" wide. Weight is 65 pounds. Friction slides.. I wish I had kept Mine, which I bought new with two matching bottoms... The drawers on those boxes have a sharp edge, so don't be slamming Your fingers in the drawers.. Other than that, I liked that chest  I would grab that one in a heartbeat.

I'd buy that Proto box in a second! I really like the style of the Proto Flying Lady tag. Something like that would bring a smile to my face every time I see it. Buy it quick, or you will regret it.

Do they have roller bearing glides on the drawers? They had one here in Spokane just like that one for $50. It was on craigslist for days, much to my surprise. I found myself yelling at the puter screen! Suspense is killing me like that one ratchet thread here awhile back. Did you?

I would steal $40 from a Salvation Army donation jar a la the "Sticky Bandits" in Home alone 2 if I was flat broke, to be able to purchase that box at that price...

(before the morality police arrive, I am kidding!!!)

Serious time...I'd ****** that in a heartbeat. I don't see many Proto toolboxes of any style or condition for sale with any sort of frequency, and like stated previously, I love the classic look with the riveted on Flying Lady tags.

That box looks clean enough to eat off of, it was either someone's pride and joy or was in storage/sitting unused most of its life.

I would have no space for it either, but being that nice I'd have no qualms to use it as inside the house tool storage, displayed somewhere with pride. Take this with a grain of salt though, no fancy Gerstners used as jewelry boxes in my home...but my Kennedy roller is my nightstand, lol.

I would pay more for that box. $40 is a very good deal.

If it was reasonably close, I'd go up to $200 if I needed it, $100 for the novelty of it because its cool. $75 and 2 hours of driving is a fair deal. $40 is a steal.

Wow, 65 lbs.! It doesn't sound like it would be flimsy.

The drawers pull smooth as glass. Someone had this box in a controlled environment and barley used it. The inside is in fantastic shape. I will do the usual cut n buff on the exterior paint so that it shines up and brings life back into the paint. After that, I'm going to have to do some house cleaning and organizing. Hopefully I come across the roller cab now.

Thanks to all of you who responded. It didn't take much to talk me into grabbing this box.

Here is a close up of the Proto tools that came along with the box.

No, I would not pay $1 for that. Just more junk to add clutter.

Nice find, $40 is a bargain in spite of the drive!

I gave $50 for one last weekend. I will find a good home for it.

It could be. I haven't had time to grab the catalog off Twertsy's site to verify. I know that they've rarely, if ever, were used. Nice and shiny!

It is not always possible when collecting vintage tools; sometimes doable but expensive, but I always love finding nos, rarely used, and/or super clean/well cared for tools, especially if the price is right!. You **** because you got them free with a $40 box!

I'm definitely going to keep my eye open for a pair, those look interesting.

Probably worth more like 150. Sometimes space is an issue. There is a guy here selling a blackhawk press cart for 600, I want to buy it but where do I put it? My family is already about to stage an intervention...

Do you happen to have a link where I can grab that 1970 Proto catalog?

Thanks!

Yup I would. I have more tools and boxes than I need. But I would get this one too. Proto is a particular weakness.
