Would You Remove Epoxy Coating Before Installing RaceDeck?

I had my entire garage floor done by a local flooring company when we first moved into our house back in 2007. Over the years, the coating has not held up well at all and has started peeling in various (large) spots. As a result, I think I want to do tiles this time around. However, is it okay if I simply lay the tiles over the my floor as-is? For a variety of reasons, I don't want to scrape the coating off.

Here is a picture from a few months ago while I was hanging my new cabinets (before organizing). You should be able to see some of the spots where the coating is completely gone:

Assuming it's not a big deal to lay tiles over my floor as-is, do you think it would look bad to go with the Free-Flow tiles? Would the existing coating show through too much? I currently like the looks of the Free Flow tiles more so than the solid variants. Or perhaps I could add some sort of layer (e.g., some sort of special fabric) over the floor before installing tiles?

I would remove anything that is loose or can be brushed and made loose.

I would then clean that area and paint it with a similar color basic garage floor paint.

Then I would lay the free flow over that and any color that shows through will appear even. Also that will reduce the chance that anything you spill will soak into the concrete

Bingo - I second that as well. The other alternative is black synthetic landscape fabric. It's inexpensive and also has the effect of muting any noise the tile may make when walking on it.

It is not necessary with RaceDeck to paint the sub floor, but removing all loose flakes and debris is a good idea.
