Hey all, my S/O guy told me today he could make me a deal I can't refuse on this box...(KRL1033APJJ)

1184008866174_tom3.jpg

Now, these are my boxes, the two black ones (KRA5319DPC & KRA5208DPC) are the ones I'd be giving up...
Thumb003.jpg

I like my black ones, but what I hate is that the drawers are so shallow. The black ones are full too but I think the way the KRL box is layed out I miiiight wind up with more room or at least have room for what I have. What I don't like about the KRL is that it's a steal-me green, and I like the beefy look of a top & bottom or bottom & riser, but if I got either a top box or riser for the KRL it would be WAY out of what I could afford any time soon, so I don't know if I'd like the looks of just a bottom box. Just undecided on if I'd go for it and looking for opinions...My dealer said he could make an offer I can't refuse but I haven't heard what the offer is yet either. :headscrat

He said he originally ordered a different color and they instead sent him a green one, and he wasn't able to return it. He also said that he's had it a year and nobody seems to want green :headscrat. Blue would be what I'd want the most but the green one's the one he's offering me for the deal.

If you are going to give him your top and bottom boxes I guess you would be loosing alot of space and that tools from 2 boxes will not fit into one. But then agian I don't know what's in your boxes.

If it was me I'd say no

Colour has nothing to do with it.

I take it both boxes are about the same depth. A top and bottom box for a bottom is not worth it in my opinon. Right after he gets the bottom box he will crave for a top box cause he has was used to having one which means more money spent. He'd be better off finding a small to medium box (used or new) with deep drawers

I wouldn't even consider giving up a top and a bottom for a bottom even if it was a krl. You'll find that your trying to stuff everything in and it'll be jammed solid before you even start using it.If he has had it for a year and can't sell it,what happens if you're not happy with it?It'll be hard to unload it for a fair price.Just my opinion.

Several inches deeper isn't going to make up for having a top chest.:wtf:

KRL1033 - Roll Cab .......44,761 - cubic inches

KRA5208 - Top Chest ...12,970 - cubic inches
KRA5319 - Roll Cab ......19,546 - cubic inches

Do the math dude. . . :D

You need to define "a deal you can not refuse". What are the terms?

Do you like the green color? (This is one point where ONLY your opinion matters).

Depends on the deal and what he would take with no trade and you sell your boxes outright. Trade in prices can be decieving, I'd at least have to try and sell the boxes yourself. Its not like the green box would be sold out from underneath you. Also, have you considered a side box or locker. Might be able to pick one up off craigslist and solve your problem and save money!

Most important, can you live with green?

Nik,

You can learn to live with the green if the deal is good enough. I went from a top and bottom 41" box to a 1023 and had room left over. Plus with the added side locker, riser and top storage, I don't think I will ever need another box. I agree with the green paint comments though, kermit can be spotted 5 miles away, in the dark, without lights and facing the opposite direction... It is one hellofa box though...

Does he have a stainless top for it? That is one thing that I like the most about the new box. A nice easy to clean surface to work on things. I do keep a piece of butcher block around to put on the top for those "don't force it, get a bigger hammer" times.

Get him to tell you "the deal", and then have him throw in a stainless steel top.

It's a buyer's market...

A buddy of mine bought a KRA series bottom box in that green a few years ago... picked up a matching top box in red off craigslist and just doesn't worry about the odd color combo. Personally that green is a bit much for my tastes but if you can gain that much extra space and just run a bottom box. I'd do it. I prefer a flat work surface that I can set things on, etc vs. having a top box.

Remember when wheelin & dealin you keep saying with your best poker face even if you like it " I just don`t know about the green"

"Who puked in your truck?!?!" Would have been a good negotiation starter!:bounce:

here is my take you are loosing a lot of draws and only gaining marginal space in your draws. the lay of the bottom box is almost the same as the new one. Take a good hard look at the way your box is laid out (tool wise) can you afford to loose draws? # of draws will defeat cubic inches easily if your tools fit.

This too good t be true deal does it involve him giving you cash or credit if not walk away. remember he has been sitting on the box for a year shown a lot of people consider the price of it at most to be 50% off retail.

You can just buy deeper drawers for your box and re-configure it.

Have done it many times with boxes at work. The drawers aren't terribly expensive either, I want to say around $50 or so. Will need to get with your Snap On guy and they can hook you up. They do laser etching for tools and cut foam inserts as well if you didn't know that.

IMHO, the difference between the Heritage Series and the Master Series is too great. The Heritage drawers are 17 17/32" ( 17.5") deep and have 120lb BB slides. The Master drawers are 26 31/32" (27") deep and have 227lb BB slides. That's almost a 10" difference in drawer depth and over 100 lbs per slide difference. Those two differences stand out, but there are other differences as well.

Besides, you can always get a top box, locker, end cab, top cab, etc. later if you need the additional space.

As for myself, I would switch over to the KRL, despite the Kermit green.

Keep in mind that you are VERY unlikely to find add-on components later on, (top-box, side locker, side boxes, etc) to match the green from any used source like Craigs List or eBay. And you can find these boxes used in any color you want for about $4k on eBay if you are patient. I would bet you could get slightly over $2k for yours.

Also, it may not just be because of color that the box hasn't sold in a year. NO boxes are selling. We are not in the best of times for most technicians. My MAC guy told me a few days ago that he usually sells an average of about 20 toolboxes each year, and has not sold a single box in 6 months.

Thanks guys, He said he'd bring it by next week and I can take a look at it and see how it looks and find out exactly what he wants to work out on it. Nothing's set in stone right now. The way it came up actually is that he has a side box on his truck where each of the drawers is a different color from the catalog and I said "Man I like that green". I set a bunch of my green Snap-On tools on top of my box today and walked out to the road to see how well I could see them as if someone was looking as they drove by and man it sure will advertise itself in the event I got it :headscrat. It'd have to be an extremely good deal or I'd just hold out and get a new blue one later.

Nik_95Cobra,

If you get that "Extreme Green" box, plan on keeping it for the rest of your life or be prepared to take a HUGE loss on it........

I think it comes to personal prefrence

you need to look at a couple of things starting with how you organize your tools. think ahead of what you would put in each drawer and then ask yourself if that will work for you.

if you have alot of wrenches and have to keep them in different drawers then having fewer and larger drawers is a good thing (if you like it that way).
if you are going to have to start mixing tools in the frwer drawers then that is not a benifit (if you dont like that)

plan ahead, and you wont be disappointed

Ha no...When he got it on the truck and brought it to me it wasn't even the 1033 like was on his truck previously. It was the shorter one, can't remember the item #. It also had a couple dents and scratches in it but was being based off the price of a brand new perfect box. With trading in my other two Snap-On boxes, he wanted an additional $2,000 for the trade. While I didn't think it was unfair it's just not a route I want to take on a non-1033 box that I don't really want. I guess I'll have to wait a bit and save up for an actual KRL1033 box and put up with my super shallow kra drawers for now. :(

Why trade? Just buy the 1033 and keep the others. If you still have lots of room, then you need to buy more tools.
Works for me :lol_hitti

Don't you love it when they build your hopes up like that? My SO dealer already knows what KRL I want next and he'll call me when one arrives on trade or repo. Take your time, something will pop up.

Nik

By the way, nice name you have there, Nik.

Yeah diesel that's wishfully along the lines of what I'd want to do when the time comes to cross that bridge and just take my kra boxes home to replace some of the other boxes here, It'd depend on timing and weather or not I'd want to take on the payments at the time. Yeah Nik, Great name :D Had my hopes up on the box but he's really a great dealer. Got my 4-Drawer blue-point cart full of tools for free in a drawing he had, among other things, then he gave me great trade-in prices on the blue-point stuff for snap-on stuff instead. It's just that much more aggrivating now when I pull open a drawer and it's so shallow.

My son in law got a 3 month old 4400 dollar snap on for 2700...I wish I could remember the model #...shouldnt' be hard tho, I think only one box costs 4400 exactly. His dealer has 16 boxes at his house in his garage, some used, some new, whenever someone is looking for one he'll roll it on the truck and show up with it.
