I built a 36x45 post frame three years ago. I built brackets to bolt the posts to the footings. Everything turned out great but here's what I wish I would have done...

1. Of course, I wish it was bigger. That's just a given.
2. I wish I would have bit the bullet and put pex in the floor. Now, I have a outdoor wood boiler and I could have attached it to the pex.
3. Windows. I didn't put any in and I wish I did. Still planning to add some but it will just be a PITA.
4. I wish I would have made it standard 2x6 framing instead of post frame. It would have made it a lot easier to finish the inside.
5. I wish I would have hired a different concrete guy. I have a floor drain but the water doesn't drain to it!!!
6. I wish I would have put a overhead door at the other end of the building.

And that's just a couple... I could go on and on.... But hey, the next one I build will be just how I want it!

I wish I would have gone with In-Floor Radiant Heat
2x6 walls instead of 2x4
Larger Windows Upstairs (loft area)
Even More Outlets on each wall
A few more outlets in the ceiling.
A Floor Drain... (code does not allow)
And at least 5 feet deeper (not enough room to do that)

are some of my Shoulda...Woulda...Coulda's

yup I agree with the 2X6 instead of 2X4
I went with 10' walls but I am now thinking I shoulda gone 12..
I have (so far) plenty of outlets
didn't think of a floor drain though my Dad put one in his that was built several years before mine
floor heat and thicker slab by about 1" to 1-1/2" as there is debate now as to whether I have enough concrete for my lift
put a gas line in at the time I was building

though my help argued with me I am glad I stayed with being 100% stick built instead of truss built for storage reasons

I just went with a flat slab (no rat wall ) and so far that has not been an issue

Similar to what others have already mentioned:

1. 6 car (3 double doors) instead of 3 car wide
2. 6' deeper
3. more outlets: 120 + 240
4. 4' taller
5. rollup garage doors
6. deeper overhang all around
7. insulation
8. heat/ac (separate from house units)
9. at least 1 man door on the opposite side of the building, preferably additional double garage door as well
10. more money
