Their words not mine. I’m guessing the comments here will be “different” than the ones on his channel.

Anyone want to take a guess where that wrench will break?

I suppose this is useful if you have a welder and a spare open end wrench but can't afford five bucks for a cheap crescent wrench.

sure.. I'll spend a couple hours creating a crappy version of a crescent wrench (which can be purchased in 5 minutes for $10.)

Well there goes a few minutes of my life that I just wasted viewing that.

I guess I can understand those that enjoy modifying, converting, testing, etc. tools would enjoy something like that but really it's all just ****.

I mean, someone is actually going to go through the trouble of wasting time, energy and effort just to try to show that they can make a difference in using a tool by going through all that **** just to do so?! It's plain stupid. :lol_hitti

Just buy a cheap set of METRIC and or SAE tools so that you have various selection sizes to chose from. :dunno:

Or better yet just grab a pair of simple pliers or heavy duty ones and remove the nut. I mean it's just all ****! :lol_hitti

mike93lx stated it the best in post #9.

Hey now...

I have been challenged to make an adjustable from scratch that worked and worked smoothly.

I started by fixing messed up units then made four more without any wrench parts at all. One did adjust smoothly and another was rigid enough to work.
So had I combined the best of the two it might have met the challenge.

It was not easy as it seems at all. And playing with junk and a welder can be fun. Try it one day.

At the time I had about 16 wrench sets, most in storage.

I can't imagine anyone out there with the tools to make that, yet does not already own an adjustable wrench.

I've always sort of wondered if those actually work. Seems like the intermediate sizes would be way off-center.
My mom found one on the road and gave it to me. Not bad or power driving wing nuts and small ceiling hooks.

I can't imagine anyone out there with the tools to make that, yet does not already own an adjustable wrench.
But his one has unhardend jaws to keep from scratching the nuts.

IMHO, this wrench hack (courtesy of the GJ "Post your WTF pics" thread) was far more creative. tapatalk_1515636227916.jpeg

I remember seeing an antique factory-made adjustable wrench that worked with exactly the same concept of movable shims. I know it was posted on here somewhere, but it may have just been an eBay link or something. Also think it may have been of German origin, but not sure...

edit: found the post in the adjustable wrench thread but the images don't appear to be working any more. It was definitely German though.

Severely weaken the structural integrity of the wrench just to make a stupid video to waste 7 minutes of our time just show you can waste your time making an adjustable instead of buying a 5 dollar adjustable.

Dumb idea with not much point but it was an interesting concept to solving a problem. (more so if you run it at 2x speed and skip ahead 40 seconds every few seconds you watch). Probably because I find jury rigging and improvisation fascinating. Calling it a wrench hack in anything but the dictionary definition is clickbait.

Clever and resourceful, but a lot of unnecessary work. If that guy has access to a grinder and welding equipment, I gotta believe he has an adjustable wrench too.

I used a 'too-big' wrench and a the spare change from my pocket to tighten up the battery clamp on my car battery once.

Better than walking,
but using a shimmed wrench as your go-to choice (even in another country) = :wtf: :headscrat

They are gimmicky but I have them from Sears I got both free with points :headscrat. And I’m kind surprised at how well they work. While they are not for super rusted of frozen stuff. I will say for installing eye hooks and regular hook they are a time saver.

Also - If you don't have a wing nut socket these work great.

Easy. Some wingnut re-invented a 80 year old wrench design from Germany.
