It reminds me of the kind of car repair work you see in Cuba. You make do with what you have.

My mom found one on the road and gave it to me. Not bad or power driving wing nuts and small ceiling hooks.I've always sort of wondered if those actually work. Seems like the intermediate sizes would be way off-center.
But his one has unhardend jaws to keep from scratching the nuts.I can't imagine anyone out there with the tools to make that, yet does not already own an adjustable wrench.
I remember seeing an antique factory-made adjustable wrench that worked with exactly the same concept of movable shims. I know it was posted on here somewhere, but it may have just been an eBay link or something. Also think it may have been of German origin, but not sure...
edit: found the post in the adjustable wrench thread but the images don't appear to be working any more. It was definitely German though.

. And I’m kind surprised at how well they work. While they are not for super rusted of frozen stuff. I will say for installing eye hooks and regular hook they are a time saver. Also - If you don't have a wing nut socket these work great. They are gimmicky but I have them from Sears I got both free with points.
