Hello all, I didn't realize it's been over two years since I signed up to The Garage Journal. The wife and I moved a little over two years ago. We moved from "the city" with about .15 acres to "the country" with 1.91 acres, still in Northeast Ohio. The new to us house has an attached garage that is 20x26 and a detached garage that is 24 x 32. We have a camper and always pay to store it during the winter so the plan was to put a 42x64x16 addition on the detached garage so I would finally have a shop and a place to store our home on wheels. That was why I signed up here, I was looking for ideas to make the new addition the way I wanted it. So, I guess about 6 ish months later, I was talking with a builder, he had plans drawn up and I knew what the cost was going to be. I don't remember the date, but I know he was supposed to pick up a deposit check on a Wednesday. I was off work on Monday, returned on Tuesday and we were all sent home at lunch because of the Covid pandemic. He called me to see if I was still moving forward with the build because all sorts of people were backing out due to loss of income from the pandemic and he was trying to make sure he had work ligned up for his crews. I told him I couldn't with good conscious go forward right now not knowing if my wife or myself would be unemployed real soon. I went back to work about 5 weeks later and my wife never stopped working. Luckily, things didn't really change for us financially but the materials shortage had begun. By the time things were available, you all know, the prices where through the roof. I wasn't willing to pay the additional $15K-ish that it was going to cost. So, I stored the camper off site again and decided to wait it out. While waiting for materials to come back down, I started to question whether I wanted to live where we were. Things were just not as peaceful or quiet as I hoped they'd be. Then, I started to question that if I did stay here, do I want to sit on the back deck and look at a building instead of the sunset over the farm fields behind us. So, I decided that for now, I needed to do what I could to make the detached garage that was already here more usable. I hadn't really done much since moving, just sort of dropped stuff where it would fit and went on with life thinking I'd have a lot of space soon to get it all sorted out. So that's where I am at now. I have been tweaking the current garage, getting rid of stuff, shuffling stuff and replacing stuff. Hopefully I have taken enough pictures to have a build thread that will be worth looking at. Trust me, it's not going to be fancy and pretty soon the wife if going to say, either make the decision to move or start remodeling the house like we planned. Time will tell. Thanks for stopping by!!

Nothing is ever easy or go as planed. Not looking for a street or anything but just something a little more specific…where in NE Ohio? I’m south of Youngstown.
