I consider myself fairly aware of new technology and not often blown away. Ive had maglites for several years and I recently got the key ring sized Led Lenser which was great.
However Ive been looking at getting the P7.2 for a couple of months and then it was up on a credit card rewards scheme and I had enough points.
Holy sht!!!! How bright is this new LED technology!! Its almost unbelievable how much light 4 triple A batteries can throw out.. I swear the large 14 series would illuminate a 747 at cruising altitude.
Anyway if you are after a flashlight that hangs off your belt the P7.2 should be high on your list...

I carry a Fenix PD32 with 1 rechargeable 18650....lights up a 1/2 acre. Fits in my mag pocket of 5.11 pants.

I grew up with those absurdly huge and heavy Maglites. Gawd, I hate those things. lol

we use the LED Lenser P7 and P7.2s at work. They are, without question, the most powerful pocket torch I have ever used. Really nicely made as well.

Thrunite are very good for the money. The tn20 is amazing for work stuff an the tn36 has the newest dyes on the market sheading around 5500 actual lumens. The 2c v2 is also incredibl, over 900 lumens from a single 18650 an less than 5 inches long. Yes, I'm a lighting fanatic. I have a bunch of great torches, all 18650 powered. If you want high power it's a must, a series don't cut it..

I have the LED lenser P5R.2 It is a great light, bright as hell @ 270 lumens my only issue is the charger/on switch mine went defective after a few weeks and my buds went out on him after a few days.

I had it sitting on my tool box and I went to open a drawer and the light came on it would progressively get worse so I handed it back to my Matco dealer for warranty. They do come with a 5 year warranty.

I have a LED Lenser M1 and extremely happy with it. I have heard that LED Lenser is a product from the Leatherman Tool Co.

LED Lenser rocks compared to Mag, but also look at Malkoff Devices, Elzetta etc. even Streamlight has some nice LED lights these days. I have a Surefire 6P with a Malkoff drop in and it is astonishing. For EDC I don't want to carry something that big so I carry a Sunwayman V11R modded by CPF member Vinh Nguyen (high current driver + Nichia 219 emitter) it's probably not as robust as a Malkoff or Elzetta but gets the job done. For non-mission critical apps Fenix makes lots of lights that are still reasonably robust, budget priced, and really bright. My previous EDC was a Fenix E11.

One thing to keep in mind is that when you start EDCing a flashlight you will use the snot out of it; the ability to use rechargeable cells is key. This is one of the reasons I don't EDC an unmodded Surefire or Streamlight as the only rechargeables that work well in them are LiFePO4s which don't give as much runtime as regular Li-Ion 16340s.

Those are some of the reasons why I've gone to a single AA light as EDC: commonly found battery (and its easyto store backups), small form factor, and with new techology, very bright and efficient. That works for me....but I still have a modded rechargeable Magcharger at home pulling 700+ lumens with a drop-in Cree triple emitter :D

In Sterling too BTW.

Cool :)

A stock V11R will run on 18650 or NiMH AA (there's an extension tube available.) I doubt the VN driver will run very well on NiMH; I have the tube if I get into a pinch (and always have AAs on me as I do CAD work and use cordless mice) but I bet it'd just fall on its face if I dialed it up past half brightness.

I have an M17R, among many others. 850 Lumens, it's seriously bright.

I think, like many others, they've inflated that number a bit. That's more than the biggest Hella LED worklights, which has 23 LEDs and consumes a minimum of 70w. My friend bought a CREE light for his bike recently, which is advertised as 6,000L, yet is not as bright as my 850L LED Lenser.

If their figure is correct, it's impressive, but it sounds exaggerated.

Someone gave me a 12 led Lenser light once, and yeah, it was bright!
But I find - for my eyes - the yellowinsh light from regular bulbs allows me to see better than the blueish light out of l.e.d.s.

I've got a Convoy C8 with an XM-L2 emitter, and an honest 1000 lumens. All for about $18.

It's crazy how far flashlights have come in the past 10 years.

I agree, however even with 1/3 less of the stated output they are still brighter. I have many torches, some custom. Some use good components they are just not built entirely up to par. Ex, some you only need to boost the drivers as they come with quality dies. Lamens terms, LED lenser is a bit much for what it is, but in the end people will always pay for peace of mind.

Also, NO AA will ever match the output of an 18650 battery. Thats like comparing a 5 liter twin turbo V8 and a 2 liter 4 cylinder. I was mainly referencing the power source. Go look at some quality 18650 powered torches like Olight an then you will see what I'm talking about.

I have a led lenser hr 7.2 and it is the most amazing headlight I have ever used, dual to adjust lumens between 25 and 300 lumens. Single and strobe red light on the back with a twist style lens for focusing and it's rechargeable. Headband got dirty real fast bit I have had every common to a diesel engine hit this thing and it still works, plus battery on low setting last me two days
