Thinking about picking up the HF 44" combo, but am not a big fan of the all red color. While I know it is just personal preference, I really like the look of Craftsman red combos with dark grey drawers.

I wanted to reach out and see if anyone has wrapped the drawers on an all red combo. I think vinyl would be the cheapest way to achieve that look I am going for. Anyone use vinyl wrap to do anything cosmetically different to their set up?

Thanks in advance!

IMO spraying the drawer fronts black/grey would be easier than wrapping, especially with the rattle can method. Hammered or textured finishes are an optional choice. Black/grey drawer liners would cover up the insides of the drawers and then the all red HF transformation into the CM color scheme would be complete except for removing the HF badge

I have thought about doing something similar so please post some pictures if you do go the vinyl route. I have a Mac box so I didn't like the idea of actually painting it. Vinyl can be removed later.

Just buy the box you want. The amount of time spent prepping and painting would be substantial just to find that the paint will chip.

Doesn't seem like,it would be a big deal.
If you are buying the single color vynal it should not cost too much.
If you have the new smooth finish box it should go right on.
Take it slow and use the squeegee thing and it will come out smooth

I haven't wrapped yet, but want to.

I have, however, painted many boxes. I paint the faces and about 2" back on the drawers, not the entire drawer. I remove the drawers and paint about 2" back on the box frame as well.

When it's closed it looks great. When you open it you see the red interior drawer, but I live with it and don't even notice it anymore.

i wrapped the drawers on my old mac box. it was all hunter green and just didnt look good with my black lower box. it held up nice. ended up selling the box. 8 upper drawers wasnt enough for me.

i ordered some matte black vinyl on ebay for pretty cheap. a roll took care of it. may need more for a lower box.

i think i would paint if i had to do it over again. less labor and you can touch up the pain anytime. cant touch up vinyl.

I can't remember his user name but there's a guy on here that recently posted a link to his review on YouTube where he had a bunch of wrap on his 5 drawer cart. Also there's a picture of one with painted drawers in the modifications to hf carts thread. Somewhere in the first 10 pages. I was checking it out on my lunch break so the thread shouldn't be too far back

If you want to change the color of the front of your drawers, then vinyl wrap is the way to go. Great durability and it can always be removed. The process is not as difficult as some may think, but there is a skill to it, you must be in a dust free environment and you must use the proper solutions to insure a quality finish. I have used vinyl wrap for many applications and have had very good results

Wrapping with the stainless steel style they use on appliances might look neat. I'd like to see some before and after on that.

Never tried it myself so I can't really attest to its effectiveness and durability, but what about something like plastidip. Using the spray can, you could tape it off like you would for normal paint, and peel it off later if you want to change the color.

Like I said I have ZERO experience with this so this is more of a follow up question and possibly giving a second idea.

I have wrapped items before with success as long as it is flat. It's also pretty cheap. I don't think i would tackle a whole box or anything like that, just the fronts of the drawers. I just wanted to see if anyone had pictures of something similar.

I've thought about doing vinyl on the top edge of my epic drawers. They don't make the guard set in carbon fiber for my 68". So I've been trying to find the 1" wide roll of carbon fiber look vinyl. Anybody know of a source?

eBay is probably the cheapest place, but any sign shop can probably show you the best options.

The green box above is exactly what I was going for as far as looks! I love that

Buy the 3m di noc. It's the only stiff that doesn't look cartoon ish. Also the most expensive but it looks good

Watch some vids and read up on it. Plastic has to be out on thick so it has body to lull it off....much like vinyl. If you just spray to change the color with a couple light coats you'll never peel it off it will be stick like paint or be like one of those old stubborn decals to remove
