I happened to be in a Sears last night and found about half the section where tools used to be occupied by lawn furniture. Sad times indeed.

I did however, find several ratcheting wrenches half price. I acquired about 14 for around $80. I know...not that great of a deal but with the onslaught of chinese garbage that I won't have, seemed like a good deal to me. I'll be in a different Sears later and will be checking for more deals like what I found.

Sears is killing themselves and really don't even know it yet. The bread and butter name of craftsman is getting dragged through the mud to save a few pennies and send executives on a power trip. Sad times indeed.

I bought some large GearWrench ratcheting wrenches today at about half price. The metric wrenches had to be ordered for free delivery to my home. Not a bad deal if you ask me.

I think Sears is going through a consolidation. The store I use in Overland Park KS has been expanding and adding new employees. In fact, the tool department was the most active in the whole store. I went over to appliances to buy a coffee maker and couldn't find an open register to buy it. So I went back to the tool department.

Here in MS, we have about 125,000 people living in a tricounty area that was previously served by 1 'regular' sears in a mall in one town and 1 hometown 'mini' sears about 30 min away in the next town. They shut down our regular sears this spring and we're down to the crappy hometown version that never has anything good. The store is about the same size as a McDonald. It's a PITA, but I've more or less given up on Sears and Craftsman anyway: the former because they're mismanaging themselves out of business and the latter because they're diluting their brand's strength (lifetime warrantied american tools) with overpriced asian tools and making me doubt their longevity as a company. I still stroll through the hometown store occasionally, if I'm nearby and bored, but every time I do, I wonder why I bothered.
