Bought this in a box lot at an auction. Marked "185 garage equpt. Co. Mil, wis." anyone have a clue? Googled it and found out the company became gemco in 1915, so this wrench is earlier?

I have no idea, when you find out, let me know. I don't think it's a wrench, someone thought it was part of a valve spring compressor.

I think so too...inline L-head engine, opening goes under spring retainer/keeper, a chain goes into the hook and up to a convenient manifold bolt...universal, can be used to break your hand on anything!
Ford offered one for Model T only, moresophisticated in that it was made to fit, with a chain and hook that also fit something specific.
