I got two of these from Harbor Freight (one for SAE, one for Metric) for $10 each, and they're the best solution I've found so far. They slide right into the drawer of your toolbox - just put some drawer liner down first, and it will stay put.

They're not listed on HF's website for some reason, but my local store always has them in stock.

I keep a set of combos in this wrench roll, gearwrench sets in their original packaging organizer, two spare cheapo Craftsman sets on S hooks, and three stragglers my screwdriver drawer.

That is my solution too. The fit is a little tight with long Protos and a Craftsman raised panel set, so if you want to fill the whole thing with long pattern wrenches, I'd check before buying.

I don't think they were $10 in the store closest to me -- maybe $4 or $6. Not bad compared to some of those other options...

I like the look of a lot of the products here. Currently I a couple trays that look "similar" like Ernst Grippers except they have the sizes labeled on them. I like this. I wish they took up less space or used it better like some of the designs I see here.

Does anyone else like to have wrench sizes listed or am I alone? I'm always looking for a new/better system and this is one of the things holding me back from trying any of these others.

Adam

I see no reason too. My holders show the wrench size quite clearly on the wrench itself, besides, if you don't no where it is without a label, you're not using them enough.:lol_hitti

:shocking:

I think I might have actually picked this up at work. I never cared before but now I think it's nice when sockets and wrenches have labeled spots. Makes it easier for me to tell which one is missing.

I could definitely get by without, but it seems like a nice thing to have.

I picked up a couple of those myself, liked them but they hold 14 and 15 wrenches in the long parts, three on one side and a bunch of small wrenches.
Problem was, they put the Allen wrenches across the front.
I have WAY too many Allens, plus lots of variants, so I ended up cutting the units into smaller sections.
Put the 14/15 part in big wrench drawers, used the 3 wrench parts for my Extreme wrenches and the little wrench holders for short wrenches.
Thus I got my moneys worth out of them, but not in the way they intended them.

I have these Sort-a-Tool wrench sorting tray...
http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_...&+Tool+Storage&sName=Tool+Storage+Accessories

I like that the tray has the wrench size labeled, I don't use the 'sizing rail" on the end of it like the one pictures shows though. I only have one of these now, but I want to pick up a couple more for my racketing wrenches.

I like the idea of the Ernst rails, but they lack the label, and I think the one I have holds more in a smaller area. I'm considering the Ernst for my larger wrenches though which don't fit into the tray and for my stubbies.

EDIT: I know this is kind of back from the dead, but hey I was using the search function, which is recommended, and I thought I would contribute something on my first post. :D

Ya'll have me thinking.. now I need to do some quick calculations and redo my wrench drawer. Need to get some reverse racks or go to a foam insert setup. I guess I'll be working on that this weekend. Dang you guys!

Quote "can't figure out why no one likes the protoco wrench racks; they're nice and made right here in Oregon USA."

We have lots of them. It is just I never think of them as protoco since they are the Cornwell, Snap ON, Mac, SK or who ever sells them. Use them where we want to pick the whole rack out and carry it to a machine, Ernst where the rack is cut to fit the toolbox and stays there.

My Ernst racks are 1 3/4" tall at the big end. But the 30mm combo wrench it holds is 2 3/8" off the drawer bottom. So I think you could get by with a 2 1/2" drawer with wrenches of that size or smaller. Mine are in a 3 1/2" drawer so there's plenty of height to spare.

What is the difference between the SK stubby 1077 (short pattern, sure grip)
and the Matco one?

The largest combination wrench I have is 22mm.

I've posted this before, but this is my custom wrench storage system. Made from aluminum sheet and trailer tape, and uses two very strong magnets, one at each end to locate the wrench ends. It's hard to see, but each compartment is actually labeled. Metric on one end and SAE on the other. OTOH, I'm old enough to just know what size they are from just looking at them, most days.

With all this talk about wrench organizers, are you saying my wrench drawer (dis)organization isn't socially acceptable?

I mean, at least give me a little credit - the combo's are in a pile, the open-end's another, line wrenches in another.... And the metrics are separate in the next drawer...

You are spot on, your wrench drawer looks just like most of mine I would feel right at home workin out of that box!

BTW, I see you found my missing Bonney line wrenches at the top left of that tray, I will pass along my home address so you can return them to me! I am glad to have those back!

Bonny line wrenches? What Bonney line wrenches? I don't see any Bonney line wrenches in the above photo - whats a Bonney line wrench? ;)

Now, IF I were to ever find some Bonney 12pt line wrenches (which I have no knowledge of at the moment), I'd certainly check here first to make sure nobody lost any Bonney line wrenches (which I still have no knowledge of what-so-ever).... :bounce:
