I like the Ernst set that holds the wrenches loosely. It puts them near vertical to maximize space, and you can set one row up big to small, and the other row small to big. It lets you fit two full wrench sets into one 26" drawer.

Almost any rack will work for a tool polisher but I use a wrench every few minutes of most work days or my men do, rolls, bags, all this would be a drag.

Awesome!!

Never really used the rail designs.. always used the ones that hold say 15 wrenches and you can pull the entire thing out.. This should be good now to be staionary!

Looks like the smaller snap on rack it is!

Thanks for the pictures!!

Ordering now,

-Nigel

Just curious to see how the smaller rack worked for you ? I also am looking to go from a small wrench to at least a 30mm.

This is how I have organized mine. SAE on the left and Metrics on the right. I use both the plastic and metal organizers from Matco and Cornwell. I have also trimmed some of the blow molded packages that some of the smaller sets came in. I have to cram a lot of wrenches into the drawer so I don't want the organizers to take up too much real estate.

Mike.

Here is a pic of the HF wrench organizer which is what I am using at the moment. One organizer takes up a 26" drawer. Once I get my top box I plan to move my wrenches to my long drawer and using Ernest rails.

Using the links provided, and some left over wire with horrible insulation, I made 2 holders. While it was a 1 beer job, I treated myself to 2 more for a job well done (second picture). They are a bit long, I will probably trim some loops off when I am sure I don't need to fill them.

Oh, a side effect is my drawers look empty. I might need to go shopping to see about fixing that issue.

I'd like to find the organizers that go big to small one way and opposite the other. So they kind of interlock the wrenches for less storage taken up.

Do they seem to take up more room then most wrench racks. The Ernst the wrenches are kind of leaned over where most they stand up and put more wrenches in less space. I don't want magnets, just a good rack lmao

I use the snap on ones but for anythin over 19mm, the wrenches sit too tall for the drawers I have them in. I think I may have to try out a set of those Ernst low profile ones for the bigger stuff.

true... something has to give in the space calculation... if your drawer height is low, then low profile will work but sacrifice length and vice versa

neither of those things factored into the reason i got them... i hate fiddling with the compact wrench holders to get a wrench out when i'm in a hurry or to take the extra step to see if i have the right wrench... and more importantly taking the time to put the wrench back in one of the tighter configuration rails.... ease of viewing and ease of grabbing and ease of putting my tools back make this a winner with me

I just spotted that HF organizer the other day, was interested in it until I realized it only had 3 slots for flare nut wrenches, and my set is 5 wrenches (with addition to ratcheting wrenches and misc) so I lost interest.

Debating on the Ernst 6012 rails, or just waiting and buying Snap-On for my next order. Anyone know if the Ernst rails can be used in a straight line like the SOs, or do they need to be angled to work? (Mind you, I'm talking the 6012s, not the 6014 space savers)

Not sure if I've ever posted these pics of my wrenches. Racks are all ernst, most are cut/modified to fit my specific sets here. I kept the standard colors with red for SAE and black foe metric for easy identification. I have all the wrenches to fill in the holes. They were just in use when I took the pictures.

after finally checking this thread out, i have been sitting here for the last hour or so making the wire coil wrench racks.... very nifty idea, and on the cheap!! always good.

im using vinyl coated wire, and it seems to be working perfectly. have like 150 or more wrenches to do up, so its definitely more than a "one beer job"

the results are pretty good so far. i like it.

will do, but it will be later after work.

i did update the idea a little, and used a long funnel and started at the small end and wrapped up however many slots i needed. the result is a slightly tapered coil, and you dont end up with large loops above the wrenches. they fit about flush with the wrench itself. very sleek.

Do your Ernst racks have double-sided tape or magnets on the bottom, or do they stay put without it?

Thanks.

-Chris

They have the magnets but I have the tool box liner under it so the magnets don't help much. They pretty much stay put with the weight of the wretches.

My rail types are stick on but they are not peeled off, just sitting there holds them. Strange about magnetic though, I love Mechanics Time Savers socket holders which are magnetic.

Hi guys, first post here, I have some of the Ernst rubber wrench holders (red ones) and I really like them, they hold the wrenches pretty good and they have a handle so you can grab the whole rack and go without the wrenches falling out. They're pretty cheap at northern tool, I think 5.99 for the ones I got that hold 11 wrenches but they have some bigger ones that hold 15

Wrench Drawer.JPG

My wrench drawer, I used the Snap-on KRA15A rails where I could, may need to upgrade to the larger KRA22A rails for the larger wrenches. Two wrench sets from 1/4" ( VS8B ) to 1 1/2" ( VS48B ) & 1/4" ( OEX8B ) to 1 5/8" ( OEX52B ) take up alot of real estate as you can see. I too like the idea of the ability to see the size readily and an empty wrench slot is easily spotted. Still need to acquire more of the ratcheting box end wrenches.

is anyone using the 'non gripper' style rails in a situation where they have to roll their box around a lot? i looked at some that seemed like the wrenches could bounce out if you hit some rough spots in the floor. maybe the slots weren't as deep.

i was looking at the ernst gripper style, just for 'security', but not sure if i can efficiently hold SAE up to 1 1/4" with them. metric, i wouldn't need anything more than a regular 15 slot.
