Wrench rack for a couple dozen wrenches?

I'd like to organize a set of 26 wrenches, ranging from 6mm to 32mm (skipping 31mm) in a single "row." Ernst seems to only have a kit large enough to hold 20 wrenches which I presume would work for a set of 17 SAE wrenches (1/4" thru 1-1/4") but that would not be quite enough for a full set of metrics.

Is there a rack out there that would hold this many wrenches at those sizes?

Thanks in advance!

Easily made to any length....just 1" bar stock with 3/16" pins (from old signs) back welded in holes.

A coil of electrical wire or a spring stretched out :dunno:
The snap on rails that Alex suggested.

I don't think it's possible. You might get away with standing them on their side but they would have to go in a 2" deep drawer and I still think you would be cutting it close on the drawer length. If you figure something out I'm all ears though. I have a 6-32 set and it's a lot of steel. Keep in mind this is a 29" deep box. The 6-32 set wrap around the left side of the drawer.

I like my aluminum one a friend made for me. One for mm and one for sae. Depending on your drawer size, yours could be larger.

I have been making my own wrench racks to fit my needs. I Use 1/2"x1/8"x36" bar stock. Usually under $2 a stick at Lowes or HD. Start cutting first divider piece at 2 1/2 inch then increase each one by 1/4" so it tapers up in size. I cut slots in a 1"x2" board spaced the thickness of the wrenches to hold dividers while assembling. The spacing usually gets larger as the wrenches get larger. The 1/8" dividers fit the saw cut. Cut stock to the length that rack will be, Add 3/4 inch for feet. Bend over 3/4" in a vise to form feet. Weld or JB weld the rod to the bottom Feet up where larger wrenches go. If welding keep mist handy as the board will smolder. Paint to your taste. I prefer Plastic Dip. Takes up very little space compared to other racks and you can carry them to the job. Not that I would try it with one holding 26 wrenches.

EDIT: Seeing as you need to organize up to 32mm, you would probably need the larger wrench organizer too

These rails will do you just fine. I cut mine in half and was able to store all my SAE (3/8-1-1/2") & Metrics (7-21mm). I went for them over the Ernst set since they aren't designed to be used at an angle for wrench size, so you can adjust them straight, or however you need them to fit.

Those actually might work but you'd have to put them in horizontally. For 26 wrenches you'd need a 29.71" drawer if not a bit more depending on how you made the last cut. AFIAK even the 30" deep boxes don't actually have 30" deep drawers. Any idea how high they raise the wrenches? Drawer depth becomes an issue too with the larger sizes.

Like I said, mine were cut in half, so I don't know how tight a fit they would be in a 30" deep box. Mine were wedged into the middle drawer of a HF cart. Pretty sure that middle drawer is only around 2" tall IIRC, and I had no issue clearing the 1-1/2" wrench on the rails. The SO rails are cut pretty low, so they don't add a lot of height.
Debated between the SO and the Ernst low profiles, but went with SO because I could lay them straight, and the low profiles lay really flat, but take more drawer depth to do so.

You might be able to combine the Ernst racks, they are easy to cut and dont move once put in place. My 6-32mm set skips a few of the larger sizes, I believe it is a 22 piece. 2nd from the left, there are 3 places still available at the top, but I moved the 6-10 to the next rail on the left since they are used so often and I wouldn't have to open the drawer all the way. Don't know if you'll find one single rack that will hold that many.

If you know what you need, why not make a couple out of some aluminum angle??? Just cut the grooves, either with a band saw, or a die grinder, then paint them any color you want, put some non-stick on the bottom.

This is my box. Modest but you get the idea.

I like that coil 'o wire idea. Not fancy but easy to make. Do you just take some wire, say 12ga. copper or stainless and coil it about 2" dia. around a wooden dowel?

Is it sturdy enough to hold the wrenches upright like you show there?

I also like that coil-o-wrenches trick. Second the above questions...

I'd use something thicker than 12 wire. 8 would be ideal but I don't think you'd find solid 8 so some solid 10 would probably be the way to go. Wrap it around a cylinder of your desired diameter and you're done.

I'll probably give this a try myself.

I picked up the Wrench Rack from H/F. It is made in the USA. I am happy with it. The lower section is for hex keys. I might cut it so wrenches will fit there.

Yes it is 12ga copper. I wrapped it around a broom handle. I got the idea of from YouTube and yes it is very sturdy. I use the same thing for my pliers.

It is hard to beat the Erst racks.

Why not throw the 20, 23, 25, 26, 28 and 29 in a heap in the corner and use the Ernst.

How often do you really expect to use them? Handy to have yes, but they don't deserve prime space.

Thanks for sharing that rack idea. I made one yesterday out of some kind of wire I had in a coil here in the shop. I'm not sure what it is, but I think maybe aluminum. It's about the same diameter as 8ga bare copper, but stiffer. It keeps the wrenches separated without taking up much space and it is easy to adjust. This is the cheapest and most adaptable rack I've seen so far. I'll post a pic tomorrow.

I think Ill make another one to store my files too. I need something to keep them separated.

Here are some pics of the coiled wire rack I made. It works really well and I may do more for the screwdrivers and files.

The bottom one is one that I made some time ago using a threaded rod with plastic dividers and a nut on each side of each divider to keep them in place. It works, but is hard to adjust. I like the coil better. Thanks again.
