Before someone says "dammit, here we go again!!!". I did do a google search of our site and looked at all of the great wrench organization pics and the different types of rails, racks, and what nots. Since Epstein day is coming and I've picked out a new wrench set, I've been researching ways to better organize. I also signed on the give some tools away for spring cleaning and I want to TRY and get both SAE and metric in one drawer. So I've been looking at the tool sorter https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00H...rench+tray&dpPl=1&dpID=512yxl+P6bL&ref=plSrch tray to hold some and maybe some Ernst rail types to do the specialty wrenches.
Has anyone used the tray? What did you think, how much room did it take up? Did you go away from it later? I have several sets of both SAE and metric, but most are from 7-19mm and 1/4-3/4. My bigger wrenches may just have to lean if I have to. They don't get used very often.

I bought two of them and keep my metric wrenches in one and SAE wrenches in the other. (I have a metric drawer and a SAE drawer in my tool box.)

I like them but am always looking for some thing better. They keep the wrenches organized nicely but it is kind of hard to see the size labeling. Plus some wrenches I have two the same size and some I have three, (normal, stubby, auto ratchet). So when grabbing a wrench it's a guess. "That size wrench should be about there." Most of the time I get it right, sometimes I don't. With all that said this is the fourth wrench organizing system I tried and it's the one I am still using. If there were some way to positively label each slot the I say it was perfect.

I still like the original Protoco WrenchRack. I guess I'm a diehard fan.

I have one of those. It's nice for what it is. I have my CM RP wrenches in it.

One of the downsides is that it will not store long wrenches. I have a set of Proto wrenches that are too long and they're not even the long pattern wrenches.

I bought a couple at Sears a few years ago. I like them still. I have one full of Craftsman rainsed panel wrenches and I have one full of MOSTLY GearWrench ratcheting wrences, the 20 piece set frequently on sale at Sears for $50. I filled in the gaps wit Husky wrenches bought individually. I have the two trays in my HF 44" box in the first drawer under the full width. I have a third sorter in my 26" box...

I like mostly Ernst space saver and regular racks both normal and reverse. My problem with the wrench tray is it doesn't hold big wrenches. Most of my sets go bigger than it is designed for.

As a fellow wood worker,I'am extremely impressed. The thought has crossed my mind about using a bowl bit to cut a finger grab slot down the middle.I might ignore the honey do list, and try it.

Yeah, I've posted these in another thread, and I remember you saying the same there. But since someone wanted to talk about wrench organization again, I couldn't resist reposting. :)

A bowl bit would be just the thing. Although I'm okay with picking them up by the ends too. The slots are sized not to bind.

If you like woodworking, here's my project from last night: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=6574349&postcount=39078

I had assumed from reading answered questions, that the sizes were not put on the tray from the factory. If that's true, my plan was to have multiple metrics together and vice versa for standard. Say one combo 19 mm with it's ratcheting buddy next to it. I have multiple types of wrenches too (regular combo, ratcheting, stubby, line type, and jumbo. I'm trying to figure out how the rest would go together. The Ernst rails are ok, but I'm curious how many wrenches I can get in a drawer with them.

Dwasitfar, I might have to go the route of homemade too. Yours look nice, but I wonder how many wrenches I can store like that vs the room they take up. If I had to guess, I have 100 standard and 70 metric wrenches. So they would take up some real-estate. My box is a KR 655, I believe the drawer(s) in question would be 30"x20 (or 22).

I put the slots 3/8" apart, but if you space them closer you can pack more in. Those racks look bigger than they are.
