I have a 12pc SK Superkrome set in the blue roll it came with. Seems like a pain to take it out everytime I need one wrench. The wrench rack would take up a lot of space. Which one would you guys prefer? The roll is also good for transportation, but again, I would have to open the whole roll everytime I need one wrench.

Depends on use. In the shop tool box, in a rack. In the tool box on the truck, I'd leave it in the roll for space concerns.

Started with a roll, but where I don't take my stuff with me most of the time, can't beat a good rack.

I mean that with whatever entendre you wish :D

I prefer the actual WrenchRack brand in the 12 slot forward and reverse.

A wrench roll is good for a hand carry box.

I was a mobile aircraft mechanic for years, and kept my tools in a number of boxes small enough for one man to carry. I kept my wrenches in a roll (first a Proto, then a custom-made one with pockets big enough to hold 2-3 wrenches of each size) because it was the only way to organize them in those operating conditions.

When I changed to a fixed location, I put grommets in the roll and hung it from one end of a rack that I made to hold several of the small boxes. This way I have the tools in one spot, but still can pack them up and travel easily. Since I keep them at my home shop, I don't have to lock them up (just the door to the shop), which makes a difference.

I have a Craftsman box built into one compartment of my service truck, and I keep the smaller wrenches (up to 9/16) in a rack in one drawer. I am space limited, so the bigger wrenches are packed flat in another drawer.

I like the roll because I can locate and grab a wrench so fast. I can tell which pocket I want just by looking, and if a wrench hasn't been put back I know it at a glance.

I prefer wrench pouches, but in a box they can be slow to access especially is the have a set from 7-30 & 1/4 -1-1/4. The problem I have with racks is they dont make any that hold more then 12-15.

best quote of the day: "can't beat a good rack"

Anyways, I just bought some ernst wrench racks from northern tools and I really like them. makes it easy to find the size I want quickly. they have some that are up-side-down so you can put two wrench sets side by side, one regular rack, one up-side-down rack, to save space. I did that because I have 12pt and 6pt. one rack is red, one is black, so if I want a 6pt, not only is it in a neat rack, but my eye instantly goes to the right rack based on color.

But, as others have said, if they're in a mobile tool kit the roll would be better in that application.

Proto package all their wrenches in rolls, they are good if you travel with the tools. But for hope I put them in racks. It is simpler to access in my tool cars.
