I need some wrench rolls. Just wondering which brands/types last the longest, work the best, hold the most, etc....
I have 90-00's era Blackhawk vinyl rolls that are decent, but cracking in places. A Snap On vinyl roll from probably the 40's or 50's that is ripping and tearing in places, but its 60's years old at least. I have a Mac vinyl roll from the 80-90's era that's in excellent shape. Newer Sunex canvas fabric rolls that are ok, but haven't been through the ringer. As well as Channellock rolls that are the same as the Sunex. I guess it all depends how and how much the rolls are used and where they are stored. A roll stored in a service truck will be affected more from the cold than one stored in a heated shop. Anyways, just wondering what people are using these days? I would like the largest possible slots. Mine will be kept in a tool box on my mason dump. I'm thinking a thick, modern cavas fabric would be better than vinyl?

Just got a wright wrench set wrapped in the roll. Seems like durable denim, and they sell them without the wrenches- pick your size and wrench count.

Rolls up and has velcro tabs to keep it together.

Also have a couple wrap/rolls my wife sew up for me years ago, out of heavy duck fabric, they've held up very well also. If you can find someone who still sews, take her a old one as a pattern.
When my wife made them, I had her make the pockets large enough to hold two of each wrench size which I much prefer. I have one set SAE, one metric, and one for SAE and metric stubbies.

What about ToolPak by Paktek and Ergodyne? I saw the Ergodyne on Amazon with 535 reviews and 4.5 stars. The ToolPaks are said to be made for the Military, but made in China.

Vettex2 - I have a bucket boss tool holder for a 5 gallon bucket and its a complete POS. I won't be buying anything else from them.

If you have access to a sewing machine canvas is relatively cheap and pretty durable. I mad a roll for myself and it works very well. It's not designed and executed perfectly, but Wrench Roll 2.0 should clear that up for me.

For some reason, my plastic tool rolls always seem to yellow and break. The all fabric ones last the longest (for me.) Then again, I do a lot of wrenching and my tool rolls get abused, so maybe the plastics last longer in static storage applications.

I have found that the best tool rolls are the ones that only have tools on one side. I have a nice tool roll given to me as a gift that has tools on opposing sides of the tool roll, and while it's compact, it also has this issue where the tools collide with each other, which is kind of annoying.

I really like tool rolls with zip up or velcro pouches. I find they have a lot of uses and are great for holding sockets and sets of small, specialized wrenches (like flare nut wrenches, allen wrenches, and vehicle specific tools.)

Im not a fan of the vinyl ones. They feel cheap and as they age they stiffen so you cant unroll them without weighting them down. Snap-On sells some canvas ones that are decent. Also bought this one on Amazon with some extra deep pockets for longer wrenches that are nice. When I purchased it they were less than $20 though.

Wright ones look nice but they're expensive and I don't want plastic pouches for the same reason as above.

I was in Sears yesterday, and noticed a nice Craftsman wrench roll-I think it was around $5-$7. It looked like a quality-made item. I thought about getting one, but I picked up a few of those plastic wrench set holders for my collections of wrenches.

I have the PakTek 13 wrench wrap. Good for bigger wrenches - I have up to 1-5/16 combo wrenches in it. Suits standard pattern wrenches like Wright or CM RP. Probably not long enough for Snapon. It's big, but relatively light weight (compared to canvas). I always assumed it was US made - no country of origin on it that I could find - but there is a GSA contract number on one of the labels.

EDIT: I googled the contract number got COO = USA.

I have the Ergodyne 5872 in canvas and polyester. I also have the tool rollup by them. Well made tool storage. The wrench rolls are made for long wrenches: my Cman and SO work very good. I ended up using Mac rolls off Ebay for my Mac shorter wrenches. The canvas roll is made from a heavy-weight material, and I prefer it to the polyester. The polyester will not mildew as fast......if your a boater.....there u go.
The tool rollup 5872 I use for odds and ends. I really like it. It is well made, and nothing falls out, the marine grade securing clips are over-sized, and most of the tools inside will not rub against each other. Well thought out, and well made.
Ergodyne makes good stuff at a fair price.
Knocks? I wish they made a wrench roll for shorter sets. The canvas securing string is a weak link, but I am babying it, and will resew it down the road.

I like (woven) cordura type fabrics

1> dustproof
2> washable
3> dries out easy
4> reasonably solvent proof
5> reasonably flexible/quiet when used

I've got that bucket boss product and I would highly recommend. I have TOPTUL extra long 10-19mm in it. It is not quite as cool as the WrightGrip's included roll, but I think that the all canvas construction will hold up better over time.

Wiha makes nice canvas pouches for their precision screwdrivers, etc. They get around the rattling problem by having a flap that folds over the tops of the tools. As an added bonus it keeps them from sliding out when the pouch is closed. You can turn it upside down and shake it as much as you want and they won't be going anywhere.

I agree with what you said about where you store your wrench rolls full of tools. Currently I have quite a few rolls of many different shapes and sizes.

A cheap cloth fabric wrench roll I got off of the shelf at Sears (made in China) had the wrench slots sewn too tight to the point the wrenches would not slide in without shoving them. After storing it a while it molded.

Craftsman Industrial had some that were made in the USA and I really like them (pics). However, I question how long the Craftsman logo will last. The logo looks like an iron on vinyl patch. Some are done better than others and I had one that is kind of sticky.

I also have some of the Armstrong tool rolls and I like them. I just haven't had them 50 years to tell you how well they last.

My Allen tool rolls (green in bottom of red box) have been working good and have not caused any trouble. I just don't know how long they will last until they rip apart. You might find some at Cripe.

I purchased several Wrench Rolls at a Menards Store, recently, when they were on sale (Buy One Get One Free).

They were pretty cheap, and they seem to be holding up well, I'll be filling them, as I collect more tools from companies that are no longer in business

More of my Armstrong wrench rolls are shown. I like the material they used to make them. Time will tell how long they last.

My Craftsman USA 15 wrench roll is one of my favorites. I put a set with 1/4" thru 1-1/8" FP Craftsman Professional combo wrenches in it. I have been using the range in sizes more frequently and I think a 1-1/4" combo wrench weighs the portable box down a lot. Besides I have only had to use a 1-1/4" once so far on a flywheel nut and I used a 1/2" drive socket to do the job. The fabric they used is really thick and it feels really durable. Nice stuff.

Do you mean this one? Item # 00934518000P Model # 81013 They are $10 and made in China.

I picked up three of them this weekend to organize some wrench sets. They are not too badly made. Something to note however: 27 in. W x 22.5in. H.

Long end of the roll is almost 2ft deep. I don't know of any Craftsman wrenches that are that long. They swallowed up my 14pc wrench sets.

I got the empty wera joker pouch for my ratcheting metric wrenches, and while it's a bit bulkier than a classic roll I like it in use

TOPTUL'S canvas rolls are absolutely top notch, I've got a Proto fake leather roll on my Proto 500 kit and these are miles better than that and light years better than any vinyl roll but I can't order them separately. They come with the kits but they are not available as a separate item.

I have 2 of the large cman rolls filled with 2 sets of sae and metric 3/16" - 1-1/8" and 5mm- 24mm.
I skip a few odd ball sizes. They are tough and have held up for many years.

I have a tool roll that was made by a friend thirty years ago. It spent it's first ten years travelling all over the West Coast, Canada and Alaska while I flew and worked on airplanes. It was based on a Proto roll that I had for the ten years prior, but like all "see-through" rolls, the plastic had given it up. My roll is made from heavy, fabric-reinforced vinyl, like used for weatherproof industrial machinery covers. All the edges are reinforced with synthetic cloth tape.

After all this time it is still flexible and sturdy. It does not absorb water, except for a little in the taped edges. I added brass grommets so I can hang it on three nails/screws. The pockets are large enough that I keep two combination wrenches of each size in one pocket.

I can't understand why tool companies can't figure out that tool rolls aren't just disposible display containers or devices to hold moisture in contact with expensive tools.
