Wrenches flat, or packed on edge?

My most used wrenches are laid out flat in order, but I'm thinking of packing everything else on edge to get the maximum use of space in my little and all I going get 27" roll away with a 3 drawer intermediate box on top. Anybody else doing this, good, bad?

depends on several factors
I used to keep my wrenches in wrench racks to save space, but after a while I had 2 or 3 of each wrench.
did some playing around and figured out that if you lay them flat and stack the wrenches they take less space. that is assuming you have multiples

Get you set of Ernst racks, they save space and lets you grab wat you need quick.

+1 Yeah! What Neal said!

I like the Ernst racks, but hey, different strokes for different folks.

My dad's idea about organizing tools began and ended with "just toss it in whatever drawer happens to be open":lol_hitti

The first pic shows most of my SAE wrenches, the second pic is mostly metric, and the third is 1 1/16" through 2". Hope this sheds a little light on the Ernst racks, although they do make several other types.

I just kinda put em how they will fit... the ones that I have wracks/trays for I use.. others get stood on end (notice my long snap on hi po wrenches on the right side) and some just get put wherever there is room.

I keep all my smaller wrenches that I use most often in racks, In drawers that still have space some lay flat. Larger wrenches get stored on edge in a tray I made.....

justin what racks are those?

Which ones? The black plastic trays at the back of the drawer are snap on that they sell with the wrench sets. The blue one with the stubby ratcheting is an SK. The red one with the reverse pattern is one I picked up from my snap on guy. I think earnst or someone sells them too. The black plastic ones are wrenchrack brand.. I like them because they have a low profile..

I like the Ernst stuff, but when I say edge I am thinking packed like in the box in this pict.

The angled racks are still in what I call "display" mode. ;) I do like the everything has a place style since it makes it easy to see whats missing. I'm in the middle of reorganizing, picts when I am done.

I took these these morning, to think a few months ago all the fraction wrenches I had barely filled a single drawer in the standard size Craftsman roller cabinet, you guys have cursed me.

All my wrenches are stored using those foam wrench wracks you can get at Sears. I tried laying them down, but found I could get alot more in a drawer by using the racks...

I also used the foam racks from Sears, I am actually surprised at how well they have stood up over the years
