Looking for pro/con advice on a complete 3/8 metric socket set vs individual rail sets. I am looking at the Wright Tool 377 metric 3/8 socket set which has the 14 socket standard (6-19) and 10 socket deeps (10-19), plus ratchet etc. I also noticed they sell a 14 piece metric standard only set (6-19) and a 14 piece metric deep set (6-19).

My main question is how often to you folks need/use deep metric sockets in sizes 6, 7, 8, and 9?

6mm, 7mm and 8mm I seem to find fairly often on small stuff and in the interior of my truck.

The only thing Ive ever seen a 9mm on is brake bleeder screws, specifically on BMW stuff. even then, I only ever use a combo wrench

6 7 & 8 pretty useful but the sk short parallel shoulder step on smaller sizes makes them less useful deep sockets in access scenarios.
I would buy sockets on rails unless really have need or desire for the box ratchet breaker-bar or extension .
More sockets are more useful over drive accessories assuming you got reasonable kit available already .

I use 6,7,8, & 9mm all the time, but only in 1/4" drive. I think those smaller sizes are wasted in 3/8" sets.

I like Wright tools, but I think there are several disadvantages to that set. Only one size extension, no universal, and the "breaker" bar is too short to be very useful. The deciding item for me would be, "how do you like the ratchet that comes with the set"? I checked the numbers on Amazon for buying just the items you really want piecemeal vs the entire set. If you don't need the box or the flex handle, it looks like you can save about $50, even if you get the universal. (Which I find more useful than the short flex handle). Plus you can choose the ratchet that you want, if that matters to you.

Just did a Transaxle replacement on JD mower and used (2) of these sizes in 3/8" drive. Heads were disproportional(smaller) to actual bolt size and recessed somewhat. Worked a charm.

Would 1/4" drive not work there? I have a craftsman 3/8 socket set that goes down to 6mm but in over 20 years I don't think I've ever used any socket below 10mm in that set.

Edit; never mind...I see that the thread size was larger than typical fastener size. Cant say I've ever seen that aside from small head JIS fasteners on motorcycles. But those still aren't torqued enough to require 3/8" drive

Thanks to everyone for their input, the board members here come through again. Ended up taking your collective advice and picked up the deep (355) and standard (354) rail sets. Also found a NOS Wright 3427 3/8" Drive Flex Head Ratchet on the cheap to go with them. Very pleased with the upgrade over the no name china chrome the Wright Tools replaced.
