So I always thought the 4400 was a double pawl until I cleaned it. I know there are versions that look to have the same size head that are double.

Anyone know if a double pawl repair kit will fit in 4400?

Not sure, but I'd say with about 95% certainty that it will. I have a 3400, 3426, and 3490 (all 3/8) and the single and double pawl internals will swap between any of them with no problem.

So I received my new 4400 from Wright and it is Double Pawl . . . my old on is Single. Interesting . . . wonder if my old single had the wrong internals.

My guess is that your old one is from before Wright came up with the dual pawl internals. Have you looked up the date code on your ratchet?

Looking at AA, apparently Wright was making the dual pawl rats as early as 1960. I have a 3428 from 1973 that is single. I have a PAT PEND 3400 that should be '63 and it is also single. Maybe they made it for the 1/2 first? I know 1/4 drive is different and may be all single.

So I talked to Wright about the Double vs Single pawl on the 4400s. Looks like they went to Double about 25 years ago.
