Wright N-62 Repair

I picked up this N-62 Wright ratchet last weekend. It's obviously missing the center bolt/screw but the rest of the mechanism is in pretty good shape. I took the screw from another N-62 and it fits as it should. Any ideas where to get a replacement? What is the proper name/type - bolt or screw? Binding or truss head machine screw is what it looks like to me. Threads appear to be 5/16"-24. I looked on Fastenal, Bolt Depot, McMaster-Carr, etc. but don't see anything that looks like that. Worst case, if I can find something with the correct head and a long enough shoulder I could cut it to length and thread the end. Thoughts and suggestions, please.

Thanks,

Bill

I grabbed a 5/16-24 hex bolt at Lowes this morning and that is definitely the thread size and will hold the ratchet together for now. I'm going to ask around and see if I can find a local machine shop that would make one up.

Before you get a custom one made, check online retailers like McMaster-Carr. If the dimensions are fairly standard, it will be a commodity part and probably available from several sources for a couple of bucks.

They obviously don't make them anymore so a custom one or a different style bolt is going to have to work. The length is going to have to be adjusted as well so it doesn't come through the front and interfere with a socket.

McMaster Carr should have one. The only problem is you will have to buy 100.

That is not a standard shoulder bolt. A standard has the body larger than the thread so there is a definite shoulder at the end of the thread. A shoulder bolt with a 3/8" thread would have a 1/2" body.

The best you probably do is to buy a standard grade 8 (for durability) bolt long enough to have an unthreaded body of the proper length and cut the threaded portion back.

I measured mine and there's actually a .012" difference.
Op's is probably similar unless it's really worn.
Like you pointed out though it shouldn't be a hard part to make or substitute.
