Just curious if anyone has found a way to tighten up the play in a Wright ratchet? I just received my first new one and took it apart to clean and lube. The spring clip seems to leave a bit of play in the ratchet head. Normally I would not even care that much, just more curious if the spring clip can be stretched? Or basically wondering if this is normal? Thanks in advance!

The play doesn't seem that bad on any of mine, I have 6 of them, better then my craftsman or tiawan williams. I'd worry that too little play in the design could translate to increased drag when ratcheting.

Great point. I just purchased my first Wright ratchet, the compact 3430, and it seems to almost bind a bit if the force applied is not perfectly 90 degrees to the socket. I hope that makes sense. Perhaps it is a characteristic of round head ratchets. This is my first one, and quite frankly I love it, just want to see if it is something that could be better.

I know exactly what you're talking about and have noticed it myself. Screwed around with the little clip several times to no avail. Then I actually use the ratchet and forget about it, until the next time I'm just sitting around staring at tools for no reason.

Personally have bigger issues with trying to adjust the selector with 1 hand, or accidentally bumping it during use. They're very nice ratchets, but its reinforced my preference of pearhead designs.

I knew when I was reading your post yesterday that you where referencing the 3430, of all the Wright ratchets I've own/owned it is the only model that does have some up and down play. I never noticed it causing any binding issues, but can confirm that it's common on that particular model, but doesn't seem to affect the flex model.

Dunno?

It's probably because it's winter, and I have my cars and boats stored, so it's the time of year I generally clean all my tools and lube all my ratchets. So basically just staring and organizing my tools I guess. I like the 3430 a lot, I just have not been able to use it much other than changing the oil on my daily driver.

I have a couple of Wright ratchets, they all have some play to them its just a normal part of the design.
