I have a few Wright ratchets and they really nice, definitely worth the price. Chrome is some of the nicest I've seen outside of a truck brand, maybe even better in some cases. They are top quality and they also make a really nice compact 3/8" drive (in 1/4" drive handle) that seems popular here.

I don't own any with knurling on them, so I can't be of help there.

Never used the little ones, but if the big 1/2" ratchets are any indicator, they're great. I have two of the big ones. Just a hunch -- I've never actually tested them to their breaking point -- but my S-53 feels like the strongest 1/2" ratchet I own and it's probably older than I am.

As previously mentioned, the drag on the larger dual pawl ratchets might be a problem for some; I don't mind it personally. I don't see why the springs couldn't be modified on these ratchets to reduce the drag -- all it'd take is a little patience and a small pair of snips.

S-53? I think your referencing Williams versus Wright.

Wright's a great name, USA and tough as nails. Very underrated IMO. I have 1/2" and 3/8" ratchets (#4426 and 3426? I think) of theirs and no complaints. I also own a 3/8-1" wrench set of theirs and it's strong as an ox.

I keep meaning to get their 3/8" drive in 1/4" body ratchet. I think because I saw some positive reviews of it here or elsewh ere.

:+1: I think the same hold true with most of the industrial brands. Wright and Armstrong are both great brands. Proto is my personal choice and while it gets more respect than Wright and Armstrong, they're all under rated in comparison to the truck brands in my opinion. When you compare them to the truck brands I honestly believe you get more tool for your money. If there's a stouter ratchet than a 24T Proto Pear Head I haven't found it.

Yeah, it's really good. I have one and I really like it. I've used it a lot more than I thought I would.

It's pretty reasonable, too. I think it sells for around $33/shipped on Amazon. There may be other places that are cheaper. There used to be a seller on ebay that had them for under $30, but they don't seem to be there anymore.

Here's a pic stolen from Amazon.
I have to ask this because of your avatar (my 1/4 and 3/8 stuff is SK  )

Your feedback: That Wright? Or the SK 45173?

I kind of like the idea of trying out a new handle / style and am not worried about my stuff all matching.

At the same time, I could deal with the 45174.
