The bottom line is I'd love to buy some Wright combination wrenches because I think they gotta great rounded beam profile and a good looking box end to boot, but the short overall length is a major limiting factor in my final purchasing decision.

Well its your money and you should buy a tool that makes you happy from all angles, My opinion is there is no way in hell that 13/16" is gonna make a snowballs chance in hell when it comes to breaking or applying torque when you factor in the percentage difference between the Snap on and Wright version. My math isnt too good but im sure someone can give me the percentage difference between the SO and Wright 9/16". Come on Genius's...

I wish they made an XL set like the Cornwalls that are so popular on here. I have a few Matco XL combination wrenches, and I wish I had a bunch more. I'm not talking about the length of their standard wrenches, but a specific XL length set.

I like my Wright's better than my snap-ons. I don't see much difference between their grip on the fasteners, but the Wright's are way more comfortable. I am also liking the fact that they are all USA, steel and all (I am having to start looking at the snap on COO now to figure it out). Not really buying snap on anymore when I can get Wright for cheaper with the same if not better quality. Doesn't matter that they don't come by, because I cant get the dang Snap On dealers to come by the shop anymore for repair/replacement anyway.

Howdy from Texas, Board. I'm new here, but have been (mostly) just lurking...

Interesting design on the open end Wright. It reminds me of a Stahl Willie design they call 'SoftGRIP'. Both parallel jaw faces are sculpted, and there aren't any teeth. Never saw one, but the regular Stahl Willie combo wrenches are outstanding.

I don't know if concerns over the potential marks the Wright or SO wrenches may leave on hardware are of practical concern. Typically, any hardware that is visible enough for it to matter can be accessed with the box end or a socket. Situations that require an open end wrench, and have to look good, are probably better dealt with using a Knipex plier wrench. Our SW guy said that they were designed at the request of a plumbing fixture manufacturer specifically for working on gold-plated fixtures.

SO long-pattern combo wrenches are my go-to wrenches at work. I agree that the length of any given size OEXL wrench seems about perfect...as long as you can swing it. Beyond the issue of length, they have an intangible quality to them. They are 'tuned', so to speak...which is obvious when you drop one. It rings like a bell, rather than the typical clank that most wrenches make. I certainly prefer them over the others that I have tried, but I certainly haven't tried everything out there.

The Wright wrenches look terrific, especially for the money. Two things will prevent them from ever having a place in my box: I can't buy them locally (I really like to be able to feel a tool in my hands before I know if I want to own it), and secondly, but even more importantly, they aren't available in metric sizes. If I were running the Wright corporation, and could only offer one or the other, metric would be a no-brainer. Even most American cars use metric hardware these days...

I don't think they should lengthen the handles if they do make a metric set. I already have long-pattern wrenches, and would not replace them. The Wrights would offer me a slightly more compact tool, and more variety in my box. For the money, I could afford to get them 'just in case'.

I'm sure I'm completely wrong about most of this.

Martin,

I may have misread your post, but Wright does offer combo metric wrenches just not in the same design.
