Wright Tools

I would like to build a socket set from one manufacturer and have seen Wright mentioned at various times in the past. Going through their catalog it seems they have an impressive selection but I would like to confirm some things:

Where are they in the price range compared to other known brands such as Craftman, Snap-On, Proto etc?
Are all sockets/ratchets etc still made in the USA?
Comments from anyone good or bad on their products you have owned or used either now or in the past?

Proceed less than Snap-on, more than Craftsman, probably similar to Proto. All their sockets are still US made. I have a variety of Wright tools and enjoy all of them.

Wright is an industrial brand. Not as flashy as Snap-On, but hard working tools.
Wright also carries the cheaper Cougar brand which was made by Danaher.
I believe that line is imported now.
I have a couple of sets of the US made Cougar and IMO they are nicer than the CMAN.
I have a bunch of Wright ratchets and sockets as well.
The price of the Wright tools is going to be comparable to S-K and Proto.
Ask them for a paper catalog so you can go through it offline.

What he said^^ They cost more than Craftsman but less than Snap On. Their ratchets/sockets are US made. I'm more than satisfied with my ratchet, sockets and flex handle. Industrial/professional quality and strength and its more affordable than snap on.

I have some Wright combo wrenches and ratchets. No problems from any of them.

They're in about the same price range as Proto, but from what I've seen, Proto makes a prettier socket.

I have a Wright 1/4" socket set and set of Wright grip wrenches, these tools are unrivaled in quality imho.

I think wright only has a CD catalog. Get it and u suggest ordering from Harry Epstein. I have a few Wright tools and all are fantastic.

They really stand behind their warranty. I had a 3/4 Drive Wright Ratchet from the early 50s, that the head split. They replaced it with a modern version, with no questions asked. You can't get better service than that. They are located in Barberton, Ohio, and as far as I know, everything is still USA manufactured. Just great people doing the Wright thing.

I recently bought a compete set of Wright 3/8" drive, 6pt SAE and Metric sockets based off of the glowing recommendations I've seen here.

Functionally so far they seem fine but I don't see anything special about them. Just decent tools that fall somewhere between CMAN and SnapOn, both in price and quality. If I could do it again, I would have saved a few bucks and bought what I was originally going to get which was Williams USA made sockets from ToolsDelivered before they shut down.

The 32mm wright is almost 1/2 thick, the snap on is a little over 5/16ths

I kinda disagree. I've become a Wright fan. I have grown to love their ratchets, as the 3/8 rats are my go-tos. I am hard on my tools, dropping on concrete and such. These tools hold up very well. Cheaper than truck tools and far superior to Craftsman selections. To each their own, but there is my .02

I really like all the wright tools I own. I recently purchased a SK socket set as opposed to wright and am now kicking myself. SK set had many quality issues. I've never had that problem with wright.

Good quality but they miss some sizes. Still gonna need to buy other brands to fill in what's missing.

I just bought a set of wright flare nut wrenches on eBay for dirt cheap brand new and other then them having 1 mismatched wrench for some reason the quality is superb chrome is great, everything I see about them is nice. I'm extremely hard on tools as well and I think these will take my beating just fine. . I have craftsman rp wrenches also and they do a good job as always. I also just bought them new craftsman multi nut wrenches, the ones that fit like 6 different types of fasteners. Other then them being fairly thick I like them a lot. I wish they were a little longer sometimes tho. I don't think you will go wrong with either brand. I personally don't like wright ratchets, I hate them twist dial selectors, I've thrown a few of them in the scrap.

I have a mix of everything and have some Wrights in LARGER sizes and they are top quality tools. Not as shiny and wow as Snap-On but a tool that will out last you.

Agreed my Proto set is nicer, but I put my money on the Wright's to withstand the beatings a maintenance guy that didn't pay for them puts on them

I worked as a Maintenance Mechanic for 32 years. I own a mix of brands and a lot of Craftsman, New Britain, Sparta, and Wright. I never worried about Show Appeal of my tools, just servicability. Very seldom did I ever have a warranty issue with any of my tools. My "Cheap" Craftsman tools served me very well and I have no complaints about them. You can't see the finish of a man's tools when they are stored in his toolbox.

They have some nice polish now but the older ones were satin but like RP have survived the machines tool boxes that in a week make the nicest polish ever done look like as we state it an unpolished turd.

Largest group is the Craftman RP and other basic tools due to pricing and survival that is almost as good.

I don't know that I would agree with that statement but my comments were really just about the fact that some people here would have you believe that Wright sockets were significantly higher quality then some other US made sockets in that wide range between Snap-On and Craftsman. Because of that I bought some to see first hand and decide for myself. After owning and using them I'm just saying that IMO, they are pretty much on par with but not really superior to their competition.

Apples and Oranges - I was only commenting on their sockets. I have no experience with their ratchets or any other tool they make. I agree their sockets are cheaper then most truck brands and may be somewhat better then Craftsman but there are other less costly options that fall in that same range. Williams and SK are 2 that come to mind.
