I went to the summer car & bike show at Carlisle, PA fair grounds one year, and picked up a NIB 3/8" drive Wright metric socket set for $20.

Once you have 100 posts list the wants in the classifieds. They'll pop up.
If you're in a hurry just get a set from Harry Epstein online. Everyone here seems to buy from that guy ? The prices are fair enough and it seems he has fantastic customer service and supports the guys here which is quite important these years.

Probably the 15 piece -- I almost only ever do automotive work. Like I said, though, I'm not in any particular hurry to drop almost $200 on wrenches...I'd rather wait for a deal or a deal on something comparable.

......... Wright is really a brand that doesn't have specials or goes on sale.:dunno:

+1. I don't recall ever seeing a "sale" or other promotion that gave a significant discount on Wright products. They are just good, solid tools that you won't regret buying.

As already mentioned by others above, HJ Epstein is the go-to source for Wright tools for most GJ members. HJE focuses on US made tools, supports GJ events, and provides excellent customer service.

Tool barn has been running a special on the 18 piece matte finish metric wrenches of 165.00. Shipping is free over 200 so I tossed in a pair of 1/4" ratchets. The price of their adjustables made it hard to decide what to round up with. I scored a set of 11matte saw wrenches beginning with the 1/4" for just under 70 from toolup, just wish i'd bought a roll to go with them.
Also might want to check locally, my closest retailer which is no further then the sears, has stuff in stock at similar prices to Amazon's cheapest. 1/2" contour grip ratchet for 48, the 3/8 ratchets were 48 and 42. They even have my next socket set, #355, over 20.00 leases the HJE. While I can't speak either way to HJE the ability to walk in and hand them a broken tool like the sears made searching local worth it.

A good story about wright deals but not about wrench sets...Several years ago Wright (made in my home state), had a company van stop by a store opening type party at Ohio Power tools. Well as you can guess having any tool van in front of old woody was like parking a loaded beer truck in front of a drunk ; you just can not control yourself I had to look at everything.

I found this tool and it was on sale (only sale I have ever seen from wright) and I bought it that day. Funny thing because that poor driver could not find the price everywhere he looked and it took him forever but he found it.

Buckgnarly I thought the same thing when I bought it years ago, but the tool has two special pins at either end and no socket will come off till you push those pins in. Darn thing makes me hunt for awls or pin pricks just to get the sockets free so I don't use it too much, but still a cool looking tool.

LOL. Yeah I've got one. The engineer must not have received his bonus the previous year and the hired CEO probably was busy eating and never noticed.:p Someone did. Hasn't reappeared since.
I've thought about snatching the pins and making it normal but I'm not sure the plunger relationship. I'm guessing it's slotted like a gun safety.Might be able to push the bottom in and just stake it.Maybe when I'm bored.

I too would suggest eBay. That's where I got my SAE set. Also if you use Camelcamelcamel and can snipe the trough, Amazon can be a good place to buy Wright tools too.

So the pins are on the end of the male drive ends, not like a standard locking end on the side?....weird

Not exactly. It has standard side detents but once the ball enters the depression in the side wall of the socket it's locked out(into that depression). In order for it to release there is a hole in the "tip" of the anvil you have to depress through the inside of the socket for it to release. It's too damned stupid to be accidental, hence my 'bonus check' comment on the "engineer".
If he is actually that stupid, and it was an accident, he needs to be unemployed, engineer certification pulled, and perhaps a psychological exam.performed :lol_hitti

OH. If it was on purpose, perhaps for some specific military application to safety the socket ? Bidding on mine starts at $1000.

Last fall during the voting for SK Day, some of you (including myself) were talking about having Wright Day this spring too. I recall there also were some chatters about having one last spring but it never materialized. Maybe we could ask HJE to get onboard this year?

You can get the 18pc satin finish set the cheapest at Toolbarn, but be warned that you'll wait almost a couple of months and the customer service will be awful. As me how I know.

Do they make extra long wrenches? I like their "flank drive plus" style on the open end, but the wrench length is a little shorter than I would like.

I have snap on flank drive plus in sae and wrights in both sae and metric. I like the price of the wrights vs snap on. The length is nice to have some times. that is why i am looking at supercombos in metric to add for length.

That was not my experience, they held the order 10 days for my 1/4" ratchet to come in and I had the order in 2 weeks. Called when I thought it was delayed and customer service was helpful and thorough

If you have time to wait, you could keep an eye out on amazon warehouse. I got one of my 11 piece sets on there for $60.
