Paint was redone today and it looks great. It’s really the exact shade of gray that I wanted. I wonder if it’s changed at all because of the greige behind it. It might be lighter without that. Either way, this contractor has my respect and I will call him next year when I need some drywall work done in the garage at my rental house when my current tenants move out. I don’t have any ceiling lights up at the moment so any pics I took now would be pretty bad. I’ll take some pics in the morning to post and update this thread.

OP here: I talked to the painter this morning. He's sending out two guys to repaint today.
There was no talk of a refund or anything like that. He just asked me to verify the number on the paint can and he compared that with the text I sent him with the paint code numbers.
This way I can get at least partially moved back in over this weekend.
He seems like a stand-up guy. I can't ask for anything more than that.
Mistakes happen, I get it. It's how a business (or even an individual) handles their mistakes after the fact that really shows their character.
I agree that the greige is not a bad color. In the right space, it would be awesome. it's just not how I pictured my garage.

thanks for the follow up.

Aren't you glad you called him? As you found out, good contractors stand by their work. He confirmed the mistake was his (or the paint house) and he rectified it.....

And I bet you're glad you had him do the color you originally wanted.

Sounds like a winning deal for you. If the guy has reviews on Yelp, I'd definitely give him a great review for being a stand-up guy.

If he was local to me, he'd get my business.

Here’s the before and after.
I really like the before color (gray by me), just not in the garage. I think it’s be an awesome color for a living room or den. I’m very happy with the graystone. That is what I imagined when I picked out the color.

Looks great. Glad to hear of a good contractor, since there are so many terrible ones nowadays.

The romantic hills of central Umbria, Italy,
Tough call, with the cinderblock foundation, I like them both. But I'm not the one having to go "this looks right" every time I walk into my shop. I do agree the greige looks more at home INSIDE the home, but it also matches the cinderblock...

Hey, the contractor made good, and stood behind his work. THAT'S what counts. I'd hire him.

Looks great
I am a fan of lighter color as it makes room appear “bright”
Either way you can’t loose

Don't be afraid to demand what you paid for. I would never accept expecting Red and getting pink with a discount. They know the risk and should have checked the paint sample, first against the number, then after the first few sprays. That's just good business.
