Looking for a decent bench vise for everyday home garage use. Nothing too huge or expensive. Something in the 4"-6" range. Trying to keep it under $200.
Let me know what you've got.
Thanks!

Not sure what type you're looking for or what size or what condition. For what it's worth, I've got one up now in the classifieds, 3" Parker, fixed base. The price is down to $225 shipped but it's fully restored. If it meets your needs, let me know, still available at this point.

I've got Columbians of many sizes. But more importantly, where are you located?

I'd rather not ship any. Local pick only.

I have a Wilton model # 643 1/2. It has jaw width of 3 1/2 inches. Has a swivel base. It looks to be in good shape. I have never used it as i picked it up at a garage sale. I believe if i took the base off it would fit in a large flat rate box for shipping. I would take 60.00 plus 14.95 to ship. Can send pics if interested.

I'd be interested in pics of this. I was thinking something a little larger than this, but still interested. Thanks!

Looks good. Does the screw turn freely? Jaws are useable? How much do the jaws open? Thanks again.

I'm on the other side of KC from KC-Steve and have a 6" Morgan vise that I have cleaned, polished and painted. 140lbs of toe crushing steel. Its ready to go to work again, and will look great in your estate sale. This thing is beefy. I'm asking $375. I can send pictures to your email if you PM me.

Sure you need a trip to KC. You can buy both Steve's and mine, then you will be set. What workshop doesn't need 2 vises? One big for heavy fabrication work, and a smaller on the bench for fine work.

Longshot... I know.

I don't have this vice mounted to a bench but it turns very smooth, after opening 2" it got a little stiffer. I opened the jaws a full 4" and it got pretty stiff to turn. I don't know what max opening is for this model vice but I'm sure you can find the specs. I'm far from being a vice expert but the jaws seem OK to me. Hope this helps in your decision. I will try to answer any other questions you may have.

I'll keep in in mind. I just think it's a little small for an everyday vise like I want...

I was going to buy this 4" Wilton for $334 which is the best price I can find anywhere for a new vise but a search on this forum lead me to this, the Craftsman Chinese Wilton knock off which is still rated at 60000 psi and $200 cheaper so for $119 I can do just about any homeowner type task, here is another discussion on this model http://garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=126958&highlight=wilton+1745

That does seem like a pretty nice vise for the $.

For those in se MI, here's a heads up on a couple decent looking vises at a resale shop... both look to be diamonds in the rough. Pm me for details if interested.

They were asking $75 for the wilton and came down to $50 and asking $40 for the Reed(?) and came down to $35. The end cap on the wilton was messed-up, but both SEEMED to work ok. Jaws on both look pretty good too.

That's a steal on both of those. You want to pick up that Reed for me and throw it in a box? I'll send you a real nice gift for your trouble and cover the costs of course...
