F8... were the first ratchets that didn't take a cover on the non-drive side. "Sealed" ratchets. The F9.. series were "high strength sealed".

F872MP is different than most because it is "multi-position". The head is attached to the handle on a shaft with splines that lets you index the head to different angles, or it can be used as a spinner.
