Anyone on here still selling misc hardware? I need to restock my parts box and need an assortment of misc nuts and bolts. Grade 8 is best but grade 5 would be okay on some of the smaller ones. PM me if you are selling. Post up is you know a good, CHEAP, source!

What do you consider 'cheap' ? I buy all my grade 5 and 8 bolts and related nuts, washers, etc, at TSC or the Farm Fleet type ag stores. Usually about $2 a lb. for $20 bux I can get a lot of 1 lb bags of hardware to stock my bins. Great assortment and easy service.

Thanks for the offer! If its too much trouble, let me know, I'll make other arrangements.

I need:
1/4" x 1/2"
1/4" x 3/4"
1/4" x 1"
1/4" x 1 1/4"

5/16" x 1/2"
5/16" x 3/4"
5/16" x 1"
5/16" x 1 1/4"
5/16" x 1 1/2"

3/8" x 3/4"
3/8" x 1"
3/8" x 1 1/14"

Matching nuts in each size, Nylocs if they have them too. Maybe 1/4", 5/16" and 3/8" flat and locking washers?

I'm simply trying to refill my parts boxes. I left a BUNCH of this kind of stuff at my old house when I moved....all in the name of saving weight! I had BOXES of stuff that I had to leave behind.

Have a look at my website... My stuff is less expensive than TSC. Guaranteed no counterfeit (its all surplus, I buy inventories of companies going out of business)

Yep. Good stuff. A lot of it is American too.

Is the TSC stuff imported? I'd rather buy American-made Grade 8 myself.

Thanks for all the info and suggestions. Its being taken care of thanks to BMWPOWER. I owe him one for sure!

Fake bolts huh? I would have never thought that would be an issue. Can there really be that much of a market for such things?

The market for fake bolts is huge!Companies will take a grade 8.2 which is made with boron and market it as a grade 8.Nowhere near the same strengh. The was a 20/20 investigation into it a few years back.Alot of these fakes were used in trucks, planes, trains, bridges.Peterbuilt trucks had a huge recall for fake bolts holding the steering shaft to the steering box.Bolts were shearing off and trucks losing control. It's a huge problem.Picture how many bolts are holding the Golden Gate bridge together,or the CN tower.Picture the mess if counterfeit bolts start breaking in a plane flying at 30 000 ft.Scary to think about.

I don't think the FAA allows the use of SAE graded fasteners in aircraft for this reason.

I just assume most of the SAE graded bolts I get from common sources (like Home Depot and Lowes) are counterfeit.

I used to think you were less likely to get counterfeit bolts in metric sizes. But they are so common now, I'm not so sure that's true.

Actually, according to the 20/20 report, these bolts are fairly common in aircraft, military equipment, and even the space program.

Are you still in Roswell GA? It appears that TSC has a store 11 miles north in Canton...sure would be easier to run up there to stock up than to have some shipped to you...:headscrat

Yeah, they SAY they have a store there..... it ain't. At least not at that address typed into two different GPS units. I'm going to call them up on Monday to find out whats up. Either way, BMWPower did me a big solid and I owe him. Its good to know that there are people like him still around.

You mean when I snapped that bolt with a stubby wrench, it was fake, and not my massive biceps? I am so disappointed.

I'm not sure how huge -- but in my dealings with overseas manufacturing in China and Taiwan for over 30+ years, they'll sometimes (often?) screw you if they can. Huge generalization, I know. But unless there's a lot of oversight, the material and process is sometimes tempting to skimp on. Get the price real low. Obviously huge topic and depends on context.

I've been using a lot of Grade 8 Taiwanese bolts that are special order. Quality is really good. I tried to get them made in USA for 10,000 pc runs, and even 20,000 pcs runs, but the price was like 75c per Taiwanese and $6 per USA.

Both places were reputable. I'm not sure what the quality differences would be or what explains the cost discrepancy besides obvious factors...?

I wonder how many are not so much "counterfeit," as not up to spec., either deliberately or not.

Anyway, how many people are going to go around testing them. I wouldn't mind seeing more regulation in this area.

And I wonder when HD, for instance, is placing its orders how much "pressure" they put on their overseas mfr'rs to get a certain price.

The address they had posted is incorrect. According to their customer service line, there is one near me. Thats okay though. All is taken care of to my satisfaction. It cost me little, if any more if you include time and gas, doing the way it was done. I set for bolts for quite some time now!
