I tried to make a piston stop out of an old sparkplug today and my Chinesium tap set wouldn't cut a thread. So does anyone have a good set they want to let go. I need SAE only and don't want to break the budget. Some truck brands are on ebay but I'm not sure who the manufacturer is and the quality of the brand.
Thanks.

Go to a decent auto supply and buy a spark plug tap that is correct for the size of hole you have. To figure out what size you need use a spark plug.

UB,

He trying to make a piston stop from an old spark plug (probably degreeing the cam). You just drill out an old plug, tap and use a bolt for the stop that goes thru the old spark plug shell.

Yep that's what I'm trying to do. But my cheap tap won't cut a thread. A 3/8 bolt fits nice once you take out the porcelain and guts.

Good idea. I didn't know you could buy single taps. I'll check with a buddy too. Thanks.

Man good tools kick ****. Just got my buddy's tap and used some Tap Magic. He had a starter tap and the 3/8-16 I needed. Worked like a charm. Now just need to get my wife to help me for a few minutes while I determine how long it needs to be. Plan on using coat hanger to get the depth. Thanks for the help.
