WTF??? Can you help me identify this tool?

This has me beat! It's 2-1/4" across at the base, the bolt on the top says "Thyssen 8.8", but there are no other markings. Anyone else seen one of these?

Looks like a puller of some kinda, or a stop/clamp type deal.

Looks a lot like a tool used for pressing suspension bushings, but I dunno exactly. The 8.8 may just be the property class marking (assuming it's metric thread)
