Sad part is someone will probably buy them at or near those prices.

Hmmmm… a few years ago, I bought one of their 300 piece Mechanics Tool Set for $199.
That was just before all Sears stores closed around here.

My set must be worth $1,000. by now

I seen the listing on here this morning. I bought a set similar to that about 5 years ago. Only thing is mine was in a plastic case. I think that I paid right around $100 for it at the time. Maybe these are made of gold?

Proves the point why we should go back to the 100 minimum post count to be able to post for sale items.

Wow!

Ha I tried to look that up in the 00-01 yr catalog I recently found. Lots of boxed sets but not that particular one. Closest they had was 181 pc for $149 and they'll toss in a 3 drawer box for just another $29.

The main differences are that the 181 doesn't have those 12 crummy nutdrivers inserts nor a 5/16 x 3/8" drive 6 pt shallow socket,

Plus the 195 pc set has more "L" hex keys included BUT 2 less metric combination wrenches (no 15 or 16mm) and one less 1/2" drive 12pt shallow socket (the 1 1/4")

UPS GUYS :wtf:

I'd be interested if seller's name was fedexguy. On a serious note, I wonder if there are a lot of claims filed in his area?

It's true there's a sucker born every minute. But coming to the table here with that takes either a set of balls or is the smartest ping pong ball in the box.

It'd almost be one thing if he just signed up today but being a member for 4-5yrs and ya'd think he might have thought this thru.

Hum, anyone got a paddle??

It looks like one of the boxes was already thrown over a fence by UPS. Buy the other one so you can watch them do it again.

It's really pretty smart, since he obviously knows it's easier to negotiate selling prices down than up.

One would think they'd would be welcomed here, since outrageously priced tools, make ridiculously priced tools, look like a real bargain. :lol_hitti

That is an understatement.

The “my tools/box are an investment ” guys should have to make a weekly trip to the garage sale thread to see what REALLY happens when they die.

The “i have a relationship with my driver” guys should probably peek at the tool truck equivalent thread and see how much that friendship costs.

And on and on

I’ll have you know I only use plastic hangers. The few steel ones I have are hung in the shop waiting for the next muffler with a hole in it that can be patched.

On a philosophical note, those tools can be worth way, way more than $600 if someone uses them to repair their own cars/houses. :) But then again, a $150 HF or Tekton set can do the same.

I'm failing to see the problem here....looks like basic old capitalism to me.

Hmm, I have a slightly bigger set in a plastic case that I didn’t really need but bought on clearance when they got rid of the USA stuff. Paid $40 or so but surely with the case that’s gotta be worth like $800 now lol.

Gee, and then we wonder why Sears is going belly up?!? Selling better quality USA stuff for next to nothing just because Chinese made stuff arrived. SMH

Was 2013 they cleared out the remains of the USA stuff, just looked it up in my purchase history, paid $37.97.

I did buy a 384 piece set a few years prior (well 4 of them) on clearance for $75 but sold 3 of them and bought the 540 piece set for $499 with the profits. That though wasn’t when they went overseas but got cheap and started tossing in more hex keys, bits and removed the 3/4 inch set from the big 540 piece one.

They’ve spent the best part of the month since Christmas restocking tools (our Sears is quite busy and located near a bunch of car dealers), and I’ve noticed they’ve started to clear out a few of the standard issue sets and now are getting “craftsman ultimate” ones instead from who knows where and who knows what vendors. I’m sure it’s more Chinese stuff but even Taiwan would be an upgrade.

Special keepsake that is being reserved for an appreciative member of a Craftsman Club. It is CRAFTSMAN; just think what SB&D paid for the name alone.

How does that even get in the classifieds here? I thought there was a minimum post count.

Did it not used to be 500 posts minimum for For Sale ads? Am I wrong?

I always thought 500 was too high. I now also know that 2 is too low. :)

He was trying to sell the same set with the name “Scott” written on it on last month on eBay. I guess nobody bit so he decided to come here.

It’s not worth $600. To the right Craftsman USA collector, he would be lucky to get $200 and that’s pushing it. Not a lot of desirable tools in that specific set.

If anyone’s interested, I know of two Ace Hardware’s that have (3) remaining NEW OLD STOCK 240 Pc. Craftsman USA MADE Mechanic sets in the original 3 drawer boxes for $229.99/ea + tax.
