Commonly called a "hand miller". It's a hand fed horizontal milling machine for production work.

Probably made by Nichols if I had to wager a guess.

:+1: to what AP said. It is like the second op lathe equivalent for the milling machine family. They have their uses, but kinda limited and thus not very common in this day and age. IF you can get it cheap, like <$100 I'd totally buy it. I'd like one for a specific cutting operation I do, but haven't seen one cheap enough to justify. YMMY though.

I love the hog wire guard. :)

Well, duh, you have to stay OSHA compliant these days. ;)

Actually I'd be interested in what that large blue pulley/fly wheel goes to. Possibly a power hack saw or the like? :dunno:

Looks like a flywheel from a hit-and-miss engine to me. Also looks like it's now on a jackshaft or reduction gear mounted on an I-beam, with a crossed belt to reverse direction. :dunno:

I'm still laughing at the seller's description--"lather maching tool"--

Leather?

Lathe or?

Lather (guy who operates a lathe)?

Matching, making, machining?

That would be my guess as well, but I think this one may be a bit special with a real X-feed screw on the table end in addition to the lever feed on the front as some Nichols were. In that case, personally Id love to have one similar if its cheap, even with the single slot table.
