WTF is this thing? Unknown tool!

Hi, Gang--
I was at a yard sale today and picked up this thing just to find out what it is. It's spring loaded, just under 10" long, and has no company identification on it. Does anyone have any idea what it's used for? Thanks so much.

I don’t know that I’d count on mine (newer ones) for picture frame quality joint. I use then for hacking to length before I fine tune the cut. Yours looks nice n vintage, sharpen it up, see how well it cuts.
