Just checked my $289 HF box, no missing powder coat... Kinda sad.
Did you guys read where the OP receieved a $600 credit on his bill and he's happy?![]()
....seriously, if i pay "mercedes" price, i expect mercedes quality down to the smallest detail, if not, i buy a HF box for 20% of the price of the SO box and improve it myself.....isn't this the reason why you are willing to pay premium price?Yeah I think it's fair. If somethings blemished I don't want to pay full price either. Almost half off is very reasonable. I just thought it was funny people were still harpin' on it after the OP posted the resolution and his satisfaction.
"shut-up-and -don't -tell" money....seriously, if i pay "mercedes" price, i expect mercedes quality down to the smallest detail, if not, i buy a HF box for 20% of the price of the SO box and improve it myself.....isn't this the reason why you are willing to pay premium price?
I would take a blemished Snap-On box over a perfect HF box any day. I don't buy them to look at.
first they stop labeling "made in usa" now they start delivering china quality?
you guys are doomed...![]()
if its true that they are dipped first than you are just being to picky.. As long as its not bare metal its fine. Pull the fenders off you car, I would bet its not painted behind them. Only primer. Also, the interior of the car is usually just lightly painted.
If i would have sent it back i would have run the risk of getting a box that was painted the same. Then i would have to transfer all of my tools .Then i would have to transfer all of the add ons i have put on the box. Then i would have to put the anti scuff coating on all the surfaces. Then i would have stuck my SO guy with a used box and cost him money. My SO guy didnt build the box, so why would i screw him over? A 600.00 credit is fair and i can make the metal think it is painted.Yup read that. Sad

that's the point, won't another decent quality box work as good as a SO box ?
My SO guy worked on the district manager and i received a 600.00 credit off of my bill. But having an affliction , i turned right around and bought 600.00 worth of stuff.
So all in all im happy, and i can use some Corrosion X to stop any kind of corrosion so im not worried .
One guys whole side split right at the welds and all of his tools and drawers came out like a chrome filled pinata .
This imagery was worth a chuckle.
It is your dealers responsibility to check the product you bought for flaws before delivery. Don't forget that truck is his business as a franchise owner. You own a business and charge top notch prices and DELIVER less then top notch quality you lose customers.
This was the point of my first post.
IMHO Snap-On is not any better then some of the other tool brands they just have a larger fan base that ignorantly trust that they produce the best. News Flash corporations that are rated highly like Snap-On will cut corners to save money and increase profits because of greed and arrogance till enough people call them on it and then quality will go Back up.

So...we've pretty much nailed this down that I said was right:
- box is dipped for corrosion protection. It is not bare metal under there, thus, no rust.
- many things are like this, such as cars, etc.
- S.O. man gave the O.P. $600 in truck credit as a gesture of good will as the O.P. was disappointed and had a certain expectation. It's not saying S.O. was wrong or the box "bad", but simply a customer satisfaction thing. O.P. then bought more S.O. is now totally happy.
Again guys, S.O. did not lie, and the product is still top quality. You can't judge everything by 1940's standards. A fully e-coated (dipped) box with a powder coat top coat will be more rust resistant than an old primed/painted box.
Nope. Absolutely saying Snap-On was wrong and the franchise owner was lazy. You do not honestly charge that kind of price and not meet perfect expectations of the consumer and you don't cut corners with the hopes that it will not be noticed and do honest business. For the franchise owner you do not sell your product without a full QC inspection before delivery of such product because if there is a flaw you may very well and should lose a customer. The truth is you have to work for a l living an the most important part of an honest hand shake is the part about being honest.

Ok.........did they not make it right?
If it were me no. However it is not me. If it were me as the dealer, I'd have let my customer keep the box to use while getting him a new one with all the upgrades he had done and given him a truck credit for his troubles. That is good customer service and how you make not only life long customers but customers that last generation's.
Just to be honest here guys. I own my share of Snap-On tool and they do make a quality tool however I also own some Matco, Mac, Cornwell, Craftsman all quality tools so I am not bashing there quality just there business practices which I would voice my opinion on with any company that I feel like was not living up to there standards or expectations.

BTW when guys order boxes from my dealer he has them drop shipped right to the shop so it doesn't ride in the truck all week with guys leaning against them , setting tools on them and getting greasy fingerprints all over them. They are much more apt to get damage on the tool truck. You also get your box quicker. And when you un-crate it you're the first one to lay hands on it besides the people who built it. If there's damage or other problems you just have to work it out later, which the OP did.So...we've pretty much nailed this down that I said was right:

Im not sure about the e-coat. My SO guy couldn't get a straight answer from the rep. He would only say " Heritage boxes are painted differently that our epiq and classic lines". That doesn't answer if it is or is not e-coated. Ill fog the hell out of it and have no worries.
Nope . Im saying you are absolutely wrong and have unreasonable expectations. Its common practice for all of the tool trucks to drop ship boxes right to the customer. Thats not lazy on my truck drivers part, thats smart. Like somebody else posted , why have it loaded on the truck possibly getting damaged and scratched ? I inspected it , and since the SO driver and i have known each other since 96, he trusted me to inspect for dents, scratches and nicks. After i found the unpainted spots and he showed up on his regular day, i showed him my box. He called his rep right there on his cell and took pictures with his phone. That doesnt sound lazy to me. We then went out to the truck and discussed what i wanted to do. I gave him 3 or 4 options and put the ball in their court. They wanted to send a new box and side cab and stick my driver with a flawed , used box for him to sell. That didnt seem right to me. They then offered a monetary number, then i offered a number. They offered the final number that i felt was fair and reasonable. They also stated that they were arranging a meeting with the box plant on how to fix the problem. Again, i didnt get a sense of laziness.
Why demonize the truck driver for the unpainted box? He didnt make it , snap on did. He JUMPED to solve the problem and was as pissed as i was. When is the last time you received customer service like that ? Not too often it appears.
Are you the kind of person that yells at gas station employees if you feel the gas prices are too high ? Do you yell at the waitress if the butter is on the toast instead of the pancakes ? When a delivery of steel i beams are delivered and a couple are bent, do you muthafug the rep that sold you the steel ? Or do you take off the tin hat and try and remember that humans make human mistakes. Remember that sometimes its not a huge conspiracy out to get you.
If he would have given me double my money back, mow my lawn for life, and pay for my five kids to go to college , would you have been happy then ?
PS....why no takers on my Snap on vs HF toolbox challenge ?

I had a similar paint issue with Snap-On - had a big box with a side hanger. On both of them, the pain was just flaking off the bottom, revealing rust.
Addressed it with Snap-On, was offered some stainless steel strips to screw over the rust and paint damage, gratis of course, then I was told it was because we used a floor cleaner that was too aggressive. Mind you, we never cleaned our hangar floor with anything other than a broom.
Then I was told to see if a local painter would repaint it, and Snap-on would see if they could credit me the cost of paint.
Finally, after being jerked around for a year and a half, and being told by the regional manager that Snap-on didn't warranty their paint on their boxes, I exploded.
Told the manager to get off the property.
A week later, I traded the whole setup for a Macsimizer, couldn't be happier.
Very disappointing from Snap-on.
Actually I try not to rais my voice to anyone. I do have high standards and expectations when it comes to doing business especially when large amounts of money are changing hands. I used to be partial owner of a classic custom auto restoration shop and I can not tell you how many times I redid something because I was not happy with how it turned out and that was even before the customer ever saw what ever it was. If you ever say oh, that's good enough it isn't.

I'm still trying to figure out where the idea they dip the boxes came from, according to their video they are line sprayed. Sounds like they told you it was dipped to aviod having to replace it and the ASSumption was made that you could, despite the workmanship, trust them.
I think you are ASSuming what my level of " good enough" is. The composition of the e-coating/primer allows complete penetration of the corrosion inhibitor that we use. After the surface is sealed from oxygen, it will be a purely cosmetic flaw that wont be seen by anybody but me. Snap on stood up and put their money where their mouth was. End of story. Every company in america should have this level of customer satisfaction.
I did a whole lot of digging on you to try and understand where you are coming from, and a pattern emerged: Im not sure what happened between you and snap on but its pretty clear you have a strong dislike for them and a hard on for harbor freight. Why not deal with your own biases and stop polluting my thread.

I'm going to try this. I got some paint chips on my BMW, and I expect nothing but the best from the "Ultimate driving Machine". If they don"t give me a brand new BMW, I'm trading it in for something from the competetion.
I'll let you guys know later how it turned out.![]()
