I know it has probably been covered before--but hell if I can find it. I am no master mechanic or anything but the dough these guys want to build you a garage is friggin rediculous. Could somebody give me a quick rundown of pros and cons of wood vs block--or combo of both. I see you guys have different sized garages also---I am looking for as close to 25x35 as I can get, while still being the cheapest and easiest to do---I am not looking for a custom size---so other than that----I am one of those paranoid gun toting people--so I would also like something pretty secure. I am really not all that interested in a kit or pre-fabbed, because I can get a lot of materials for cheap or free through my work{2x4;s, 4x4's, screws, wire, and all the other little odds and ends that add up to big dough} I already have a good start with my kickboxing partner--he is a master plumber and electrician and also does restoration of older houses---he said he would help me out for beer--so sounds good to me---any opinions or suggestions would be great---I am also looking to put a small attic or loft type room overhead---sorry for the long winded post:lol_hitti

I'd say you've just about answered your own question, since you seem to want to do it yourself. Unless you're a master mason, just do it with the wood you have easy access to. You probably already know how to do it that way.

There's no security advantage to blocks unless you fill them with concrete. But if you have any windows or doors, you're still vulnerable. Plus, it's easy to make a hole in block.
