Picked up this old air cylinder today. My knowledge of this tank is from an eBay listing. Bought it because it was cool looking. BTW, the eBay listing states that it is stainless steel, being nonmagnetic, I assume aluminum.Tank_01.jpgTank_02.jpg

I have that same cylinder. My Dad got it out of a Lancaster bomber he bought in 1946. There were a hundred of so Lancaster bombers parked on Western Canada rural airports. Our farm was near Medicine Hat. This is where Dad got his bomber. He took it apart for the components and hydraulic oil.
The tank is stainless steel. I have seen them used a fishing net buoys.
I am going to try and make the walk to my shop tomorrow. I have 23,000 or more pictures but not one of this tank.
It is my understanding this tank was used for low pressure oxygen for the pilots when they were high altitude flying.

I feel like I see these at swaps pretty frequently. They are definitely cool looking but I’ve yet to be sold on a good practical use for one.

Dad's got one of those, he used it as an air tank. People used to ask what is it when they saw it and we'd say its an air tank, then get ask what was it used for before he got it.

Fairly common & easy to find. Pricing follows two paths:
1, People who know what they are, how common they are etc & sell them for about $20-$25
2, People who think they are rarer than rocking horse poop & want $200+ for them.

I've walked away from them at $30.

Did he get the merlins out of the bomber?

Still have mine. Have been using it for an air tank with rubber hose, valve and gauge for as long as I can remember because my father was using it for an air tank for as long as I have been around.
