Well after placing two orders from www.Ultimategarage.com, I figured it was about time to post a review of a resident Facom and Toptul dealer. For those of you who don't know, Steve D'Gerolamo (the owner of UltimateGarage) offers a 20% discount for Toptul products as well as a 10% discount on Facom products for all of us GarageJournal members!

The first order was very smooth. There was a slight mishap when I recieved the incorrect type of screwdriver instead of the one that I ordered. I emailed Steve about the mishap, in which he assured me that I would recieve the correct one when I place my next order (I wasn't in need of the specific tool so I was perfectly fine with the agreement .) Also in the first order, Steve included a Facom Ergotwist screwdriver as a gift too! (Which by the way is the most ergonomic screwdriver I've had the pleasure to use :) )

Anyways a few weeks go by and I decided to place another order with UltimateGarage. Everything was perfect this time, I also recieved the screwdriver that went rogue from the previous order too. I asked Steve if I should return the incorrect screwdriver as it has not been used, but Steve told me to keep it as a gift :).

So that pretty much sums up my first two orders from UltimateGarage. I highly recommend Steve's site. Steve is very easy to communicate with and his service is absolutly fantastic

Ultimate Garage is a first class business. Steve is very knowledgeable and is the rare "real deal" providing top notch garage services. It takes a long time for me to trust someone, but Steve is always sensitive to know his clients objectives and their budget.

Nice selection, and those Toptul tools look great - the wrenches aren't a million miles away from Facom's superb 440s (which Rotar also manufacture) - but how old is Steve's stock?! When you mentioned ordering them, I assumed you'd end up with the new style handles, the old style were deleted before '06 (they're still made in Europe.)

I finally got around to placing a small order: some ABA clamps, a Spax fastener sample kit, some Prevost couplers, and some Prevost blow guns. I like the layout of the site, and I like that he's tried to assemble everything that he thinks is the "best" for garages. I don't share completely his aesthetic on design, but some of those components he's assembled for garages, like the Lista and the Festool cabinets are really nice.

He's got some nice electrical components too (outlets and switches, etc). There's a Prevost "bridge" for airlines on sale that I'd have considered had I gone the Prevost route on my new airlines.

I was originally drawn to the site from a link to metric fasteners on a BMW site. I like the way he was obsessive in finding the best fasteners for restoration of German cars.

Thanks for the kind words.... as to forum discounts, I will try to offer additional discounts to members but the items in the sale sections on my site are already discounted to the max....especially considering the flat $10 shipping on most orders.

I've got a few Wera screwdriver sets and 3/8" drive Zyklops sets due in on Friday which I'll add to the site. Suggested promo pricing on the 43pc 3/8" drive metric set is $259.99 but I'll be including a 50' 12/3 extension cord with each of these sets as a bonus gift (see http://www.ultimategarage.com/shop/part.php?products_id=3503 ). The 3/8" drive fractional set will be $229.99 and will come with the 25' cord. SD

Just another "thumbs up" for Steve. I purchased four AC jack stands and extra saddle posts nearly five years ago and was extremely pleased with the pricing and his service.

It goes without saying that the stands are top notch and I have used them constantly over the last few years.

The 440's are made in Eastern Europe (not Taiwan as I originally suspected). My Toptul stock is from July 09.

Awesome photography. If you don't mind me asking, what brand/model camera did you use to take this picture?

is there a promo code or something you need to use to get the GJ discount or do you simply put a note in the order comments?

Here's the current (April 2010) discounts I can offer to GJ members (note that discounts cannot be applied to items that are already on sale unless noted otherwise)......

Facom - 10% off special orders from Europe, inquire on "in-store" items as discount will vary

Toptul - 20-30% (see http://www.ultimategarage.com/toptul/ttsale.html )

ABA Clamps - 15%

Prevost Couplers - 15%

Lista Cabinets - 20% (payment via check/money order only)(17% for credit card orders)

Audio Authority - 10%

Pass & Seymour HD Receptacles & Switches - 15%

Alto/Wap vacuums (except for Attix 19) - free shipping

Wera - additional 10% off sale prices

Discounts will be applied when your order is processed (special offer good through 4/30/10). Items displayed in the online store are typically in stock and will ship the same day if ordered before 2pm EST. Orders under 10 lbs will ship for a flat $10.00 via Fedex ground (except to AK/HI). Actual Fedex rates apply to orders over 10 lbs.

Please mention "GJ discount" in the comments field when placing your order.

@Muffin Man -- (or anyone else): how's the Facom hacksaw? What materials are you cutting with it?

Is it it rebranded? Where's it made?

My personal favorite is the 603E....made in France with adjustable cutting angles. The ergonomic 601 is also popular. They all use standard length blades.

For irrigation piping (working in tight trenches) or working in other tight spots, the 607 mini-hacksaw is great (the Toptul mini saw, not the same, uses the same blades)....

Hacksaws are great tools to have but not something I'll use all the time. The power recpricating saw come out for the bigger jobs and I'll use a tubing cutter for cleaner cuts on copper & pvc pipe. SD

So going back to the original question, how does one submit their order in a way that you know it's from a GJ member? Knowing the discount doesn't help much if you don't know the process needed to receive it.

Indicate GJ member in the comments field and your name (CSP). I process all orders and will make sure you get the appropriate discounts. I can also be reached by phone at 201-262-0412 if anyone has specific questions. Steve

I've purchased a few things from Steve over the past couple of months (these stands among them-- they're well worth the cost), and he has been totally helpful in the process.

I ordered on Wednesday the SK 1/4" drive 12pc semi-deep metric socket set (model 41692) from Steve. I spoke to him on the phone to confirm he had it in stock (only 1 left). I purchased the SK socket set for $42.00 plus $10.00 flat rate FedEx shipping. Steve shipped out the socket set on Thursday and I received it this morning.

Dealing with Steve was one of the best hand tool transaction that I have done in a long time. He is very easy to get a hold of on the phone. I called him a couple of times this week and each time Steve picked up the phone. He is very helpful and provides great, "to the point", customer service.

Just received an order from Steve. Purchased some toptul and facom tools. Tools arrived promptly for a flat $10, very well packaged. Dealt with Steve via e-mail, he responded promptly the same day and a few times within a few minutes each time. My only gitch was that after a few exchanges, my e-mails would not go through to his verizon.com address. Could be my yahoo.com extension, not sure what was going on, but they would time out. Got around it by communicating with him via his web site to close the deal.

Easy transaction. Toptul items I ordered have a very nice feel and cosmetics. I trust beauty is not skin deep on these tools. I look forward to using them.

Steve,

are you still offering GJ discount on Facom & TopTul? I am looking to make a few purchases.

I dropped all my toptul pricing 20% (the discount I was giving to GJ and some other boards) to lower stock in prep for the next stock order. Discounts on other product lines will vary (inquire about any specific products)...no additional discounts on sale items.

For local customers who can pick up at my place in NJ, there are a lot of items (Stanley, Lista, Facom, Grex, lighting products, etc) that can be offered at great pricing on a cash and carry basis.

Been a while since anyone has posted a review for Ultimate Garage, so I figured might as well...

Placed an order this past Friday and received my product on Monday. That's really fast shipping from New Jersey to California. Product was received as depicted and described on the website. Even threw in a 14mm fast-action combo wrench as a gift.

Highly satisfied and would not hesitate to re-order and recommend.
