Well it is finally my turn. I have gotten enough of the house done, that now I can clean up the garage and get the cars in once again, now that it is ZERO outside.

My garage is 20 by 22, and at the top of a hilled driveway. The PO worked for Sherwin Williams, so he "Waterproofed" the floor with an oil based paint product. In the interest of my wife's sanity, and well I just don't have the time now, I will be putting off grinding it clean, and staining the floor like I did in another thread with my sunroom. He also thought it would be a good idea to build 3 corner shelving units that are just about useless. My wife has always complained that the one in the back is too close to allow her to get around the car.

It's current state is quite the mess (I'll attach pictures from tapatalk shortly.)

My plan is to put two 77 wide by 2 foot deep pallet type racks that I recently won at auction (for a steal) at the front of my garage. This will allow me put the mowers that I have collected under them, and also let me put the shelves up high enough to pull the cars hoods under them. The shelving will be filled with the miscellaneous **** that is in the small garage. I also have (won at auction) 20 2 by 4 ft troffer lights that some will be replacing the 2 crappy bulbs. I will be adding bins eventually. I will also have my drill press, compound miter saw, and bigish tool chest set up.

Stay tuned (wish me luck) as I make it happen.

Glad to see you getting started. I’ve never been good at winning auctions but it sounds like you’ve got that down. Subscribed to see how this progresses. Good Luck!

More pics. Some sketches that I have been carrying with me for years. You will notice a step. It is a step down into the house. It is awkward and it has to stay.

So today I had to keep in mind my goal... cars in the garage, it’s effing cold outside. I had to spend the morning at work, so I was unable to spend the day working as I had hoped. I was able to make the following happen.

So far so good. It is not pretty, but it is starting to tic box number 1, cars in garage.

More tonight.

Thanks. It has been a rush job for space only. I know that there is much work to be done, but each journey starts with one step.

That was about an hour and a half worth of work. Now to figure out how to get the broken ride on a home inside of it. Maybe a tarp outside for the season. Time for lunch.

Success!!!!! Goal number 1, cars in garage, as the rain snow mix starts to fall. While not pretty, it gives me a good idea of how much space I will have when all is said and done.

For now I am happy. The cars are in for the first time in almost a year. Now Helda needs a bath.

Congrats! They have to be warmer and no scraping ice!!!

Yep. The Jetta is on a trickle charger now, it was not interested in starting with much gusto having sat for so long. In the last month it has seen 15 miles.

The other big issue is that the garage door opener shot craps in the spring, which started the whole downward spiral to what it looked like Friday. I have my eye on 2 auctions that have openers in them. I know mine has a bad board on it, but have been busy with work and life, so we will see. These auctions also have 3-4 more racks that I am contemplating. I would love to put one down the wall on both sides, however while going through most of the **** over the last two days, I have a bunch of trash from house projects, and left over things that I am not sure I need the racks for.

I also have one more built in to the left of the Jetta that has my brewery in it. That will take up most of one shelf up front when I start going through it all in the spring.

Nice start on the cleanup. When my wife and I lived in town we could never get our cars in the garage, but I was a worthwhile sacrifice because I had my brewery in the garage also. Are you an all grain brewer?

All grain all day. I have 3 different brewery sizes, 2 gallons, 5 gallons, 10 gallons. I can go up to 14ish gallon batches if I really push it. Once I did a 4 gallon barleywine that topped off my 15 gallon converted keg. I have not figured out the best way to brew at the new house yet. Time has not been on my side, so I have only done 3-5 batches in the last 2 years. I hope to spend more time on me this year and get back up to my 20-25 batches a year.

I am in the same boat as you Jay, I haven’t brewed in a couple of years either. Busy working on getting a new brewery set up so I can start again, all grain also.
Here is a pic of my setup.

That is a slick rig right there. My ugly junk gets the job done, but I really want something like that. Once my kids are older, I will be upgrading to that. My girls both know more than most adults about the process. We went to the AB tour, and my daughter ask about the Lauter process. She was 4 when she asked that. Man I need a beer now.

Today, I removed the busted opener and replaced it with a new wifi enabled one. Took 4 hours, and 2 trips to The Depot, but it works. Monday, I am planning to start going thru some of the mess on the shelves and throw some junk out. I have been looking into tubs and found some cheap end of season ones at IKEA, so I will be getting those to help store some of the stuff I want to keep.

Progress!!

422afbdd9f826adb456953462f6af2b1.jpg

I am my daughters Girl Scout troop cookie manager, so after a trip to get all the cookies, I needed a place to store them. Sounds like an excuse to make some improvements to the garage. I cleaned out the corner, and hung all the yard tools on the wall. This week I plan to clean enough junk from the shelving to finally take down the last corner unit and put the brewery into its final resting place. This will be a busy week.

Stay tuned....

Got more done this morning.

0d8debfbd45a36b3f0bfe292ea9f8e40.jpg

Took out the last closet and moved the brewery to the front. Threw out a number of left over project scraps. Now Mrs. Y8S can get around her car with no problem.

Tomorrow I attack my side to get the last few items that are still on the floor in front of my car up on the shelving. That will buy me another foot to pull my car up. It’s the little things.

The next step is to get storage bins for the shelving and nested that up. I have some projects that I need the space for in the garage, so that is next.

Well the garage is back at the forefront of my life. Mrs. Y8S' car recently was put to pasture. It's replacement is slightly larger than it was, so we are now back at it. Work is winding down for the school year, so this is the perfect time to revisit the garage. I spent today rearranging things to allow the new car into it's new home. While it doesn't look like much, the two trashcans full of **** removed, as well as the shop vacin of the floor by my girls has made a huge improvement.

The new ride.

Her first night at home. My wife wanted to play with her new toy, so she got the whole garage to herself.
IMG_5530.jpg
Safely in for the second night. I also was able to get enough room to open the rear hatch. The downside is there is not enough room behind my car to get to hers. Tomorrow I get more space in front of my car.

Well the ‘Rona has given me a lot of time around the house to putter. The garage has come back around. This is how we pick up this neglected space.

As you can see it is full of miscellaneous ****, mainly kiddos stuff. There are a number of new tools hidden throughout the space. Photos will be following. Let’s see what I can do with this space with a bit of time.

I see a couple of plasma cars in there. We have two as well and ride them in the house. lol

Those things are a real pain in the ****. They take up space, only tend to get played with for 15 minutes at a time, and generally just cause trouble. You will see a lot of two of everything out there. Today I took stock in what is actually out there. Mainly leftovers from other projects, and small bits. I am winning a local auction for 20 storage bins for $.60 each. This will be my starting point.

Almost 2 years to the day since I last updated this....

So here we are back at it.

As you can see in picture 1, the garage has become a catch all. Progressing through 2 and 3 we can see my one day progress in getting all the **** out of the way.

Pictures 4 and 5 show both cars finally tucked in. My old car spent the last year and a half outside. This will not be how the wagon gets treated. This weekend, now that it is not HOT, I will be getting the bikes hung, and more **** out of the garage. I still have my tubs to fill, life has just gotten in the way, so not that I am out of the funk, I am back at it. I hope to be detailing cars by the fall in my garage. This tread will hold me to it.
