My wife and myself made our weekly trip to an estate auction here in NC and came home with a few good items. I know most people say things bring to much and many times they do, but I have bought so many deals at auctions in my life I have thought about a tread showing auction bargains. But at this one today a piece of pottery, some type of jug brought 12,500.00 wow, a 1917 NC license plate in well used shape brought 475.00 ( tags have really been taking off here for a few months now. But I bought this nice Craftsman grinder for 15.00 on a killer stand , plus we picked up a few other items for down the road.
Old wheelbarrow 22.50, Homelite Buzz chainsaw with the owners manual 30.00 and a 34 Chevy truck grill and radiator. Plus the Feminine napkin dispenser ( what every gas station used to have )

Went to a neighbors farm sale this morning. He kept most of his tools but got a few bargains. 10 tubes Lucas Red N Tacky grease for $5, 2.5 gallon unopened jug of Rotella 15-40 for $10, 2 new tires for my baler for $5 each.
Watched a nice old Craftsman 3/8 deep socket set go for $5.
Of course, the bale elevator I was after sold crazy high! :(

You going to mount the napkin dispenser in the bathroom? ( One of the maintenance men at a place I used to work at was weigh-counting a bucket of change one night. He told me it was out of the dispensers. He referred to it as "blood money.")

OP, was that an estate *sale*or an auction? I get awesome deals at the estate sales but auctions ****. At a sale, everything is priced, Grab what you want and go home. At an auction, you stand around and wait all day for the item you want then idiots bid it higher than what it cost new at the store. No more auctions for me.
At this weekends sale, I got three gallons of antifreeze for $2.50 each

The more people that don't go to auctions, the better for those that do. :)

Picked up a 13" Craig HDTV, working perfect, for $4.

I only go to auctions, here in NC I use Auction Zip to pick what I hope will be a good sale. As a general rule the junkier looking place the better. Myself I get there early and set my chair up on the front row. I know most of the auctioneers pretty well ( been doing this for 35 years ) the type of stuff we look for you can't buy in the store. But you are right people lose all sense sometimes and pay up for stuff way more than it is worth. I have never been to an estate sale, here you wait in line and they let in a certain number of people at a time and they run 2 days with no discount to the 2nd day. So for me a works better. And if you are in a hurry generally they will put a piece up if you do not want to stay all day if you ask.

Big you **** on the grinder. Don't know about the grill, but it won't lose its value. The wheelbarrow was too high, IMO, but the steel wheel is worth most of the price, if you plan to sell. Personally, after I used rubber wheels once I was through with steel wheels for using. Of, course, the steel wheel wont go flat which is more than can be said for the present crop of Chinese tires.

Good deal on the grinder, I would have picked that one up myself! How much did you pay for the grille?

I've always had good luck at auctions and have scored some killer deals, but they are usually an all day event (and not fun if you only want a couple items). A typical "tag" estate sale will take me maybe 2-3 hours (at most). I try to get there an hour or so before it begins, and take an hour to go through and check out. Deals aren't always as good as auctions, but the experience is better.

Love going to sales but hate the Internet because now every oldster, redneck, thrift store, etc. knows what they have and looks it up and asks top dollar. If I wanted to pay antique store prices, I would go to an antique store.
