OK, so I'm new here. Actually, I've been lurking for quite some time, and learning a lot, but because I haven't been posting, I haven't introduced myself. But I think maybe it's time to start posting, so it's only polite to say hello.
First, on the name. Panzer was a Saint Bernard. He was my best friend. He was probably the best dog in the history of dogs. I lost him some time ago, at the ripe age of 11 years, 3 days, and I still miss him every day. I named my boat after him.
Me? I'm not as good as I once was, But I'm as good once as I ever was. I don't look as old as I am, but I'm not old enough to say I'm old. Time in the Corps will do that to you. I still play hockey, so I have that, but I'm nowhere near the physical shape that I once knew.
My garage (why we're here, right?) is quite the eclectic thing. OK, the Porsches are gone, and the Corvairs have passed, but I still do most of the work on most of what I have. The computer car still goes to the dealer, because that has the warranty, but the others? The Defender gets me overland, and the Jaguar is for cruising. It's a GT car, and that's what GTs are for. I once read that anything less than six cylinders was miserly, and anything more than six was showing away. So what does that say about a V12?
So that's the Garage. But there are other hobbies. I can't weld, but surely need to learn that skill. My father had a professional background as a machinist/machine repairman, and I need to learn more of that. But my skills lie more in the woodworking realm. In fact, while I can somewhat reasonably shape wood the way I'd like, my real preference is boatbuilding. Good old woodenboats, or at least old designs. More on that later.
My immediate need, the next build, so to speak, is the shop in which to put the woodworking tools and the boats. That's a post all on its own, so more on that later as well.
If you have any direct questions on D90 Rovers, or V12 Jags, I may be able to help. I even get lucky with air-cooled Porsches, and can reach back in my memory to air-cooled engines built in Tonawanda NY between 1960 and 1969. Boats? Especially sailboats? Ditto. All else? I guess I'll be the one asking the questions.
