Yard light options

The 70watt MH yard lamp we have on a pole between our house and barn took a hit from an electrical storm last week and needs replacement. I've swapped out the bulb and photocell and it still won't come on, so it's not economical to replace parts (I'm taking both the bulb and photocell back to HD).

I'm looking at this MH replacement (link below), which is the same as what we have, but am wondering if there are better options. I like the amount of light the 70watt puts out and the white color. Are there any LED's that put out similar lumens?

You're not going to get better efficiency from LED, over MH.
HPS is a little more efficient, if you can deal with the orange tint.

Metal halide has some of the best color in the industry, right up there with florescent.

For power efficiency, low pressure sodium puts out the most lumens per watt, but the worst color, so if you have eyes in your head, it is a poor choice. If you have a light meter in your head, it is a good choice.

I'd consider florescent. It compares to metal halide in usuable light color, and beats metal halide in efficiency.

LEDs are not going to be able to match the output from a higher-end lamp.

I can't seem to find a 70watt metal halide lamp at any of the big box stores, so I gutted the housing of the ballast and relay and installed a big CFL lamp for now.

The one I bought isn't a color I like (tends to the yellow side) so I'll replace it all once I have the time to shop the supply houses for the MH in 70watt or just buy one online.

For now, the temporary fix gets the area lit up which was my main concern.

Ive got a 175w MH yard Light on a 25' pole, and I love it, its like a midnight sun ! I did not come from a big box store, but I have seen a 75 or 100w MH at Menards.

All of the big box stores have 100w MH. I don't want that much light though.
