Paid 25 bucks for a box of miscellaneous stuff at a yard sale today. Took it home and cleaned it up a bit and noticed there was one Snap On tool that looks to be a harmonic balancer remover??. Anyone familiar with the wrenches. Looks like a pretty complete set of boxed wrenches made by KTC (Kyoto Tool Co), which according to their website is an old Japanese company (1930) that made the tools that were used to work on the Japanese Zeros in WWII. One set of combo wrenches is called "Proto" and stamped made in USA. Pretty nice old set of files and some miscellaneous screwdrivers and nut drivers and other stuff, some of which I have no clue what its used for.

Picture 1 is the box where the snap on tool came. Lots of bolts I assume are used for the removal/installation of harmonic balancer. In the last picture, what are those drill bits at the bottom left hand corner used for?

YOU ****

Catagory.....

Have a nice day :bounce:

Hah! That's funny. Actually, I "almost" feel guilty about the purchase. The lady on the porch overseeing the yard sale said these were some of her dad's old tools and that her brothers had already gone through the box and took what they wanted. I caught the sale early, as I think she was planning on putting it all out on a table and selling items individually. I asked her how much for the whole box and she said 50 bucks. I offered 20 and she took $25. Honestly, I didn't think there was much of significant value in the box, as it was falling apart and everything was filthy. Figured Kyoto Tool was just a recent asian import (i.e. cheap), but turns out they are a pretty reputable tool maker in Japan. Not a metric set. Drill bits are all very sharp, which I didn't know till I started sifting through the box.

Help me out with that 4th picture. There is a tool labeled craftsman that I can't figure out what it is for. It is the green one around the middle of the photo that has a crank on one enc that seems to work like a vise or press of some type. Any clue what that is for?

Also, in the 2nd picture, the third tool from the left (between the two hammers). Also craftsman. Has a good on one end and tapers to a point at the other end. What is it?

Its the end from a pipe clamp and a heel toe pry bar.

Tampa those drill bits on the lower left hand side are misnamed easy outs they are supposed to be used to remove a busted off bolt after you deill a hole in it reality is most peaple will break them off in the bolt or stud they are trying to remove and then theres big trouble as they are tougher than any drill bit known to man so once they snap off in the bolt or stud you are screwed . I say mount them on a board with a sighn that says never ever use these :D.

.... and most of us agree with this because we've bought them, broke them and been screwed :(

Good advice re the "easy outs."

I'm guessing the guy who owned these may have worked on older import cars, given the Kyoto wrenches and the old "Mitoloy" box (another Japanese brand) that the Snap On tool and bolts came in. Was there a time when Japanese cars used non-metric tools (as the KTC wrenches are standard)?
