What started a year ago as a project to organize all my yard tools in one place has offically gotten way out of hand! I had stuff stacked in three corners, no work bench, no room to work on anything............and a fire started by this forum!

This is where I started - too much stuff, no organization.

The beginning motivation was to get the yard tools all in one place and hung up for easy access - I think I accomplished that!

I think the orange paint is where it started getting out of hand. Originally the walls were white and I thought it needed some color........Harley Orange! Well, then the 2x4's were just "2x4 color" so what goes with Harley Orange? Black!

Then the brackets for the garage door tracks came in to focus.......time for a change there!

I built shelf brackets with a gusseted drop for the door track - shelves all the way to the corner over the door now making use of some normally wasted space. Black brackets, black shelves.....hmmmmmmm. Mirror finish treadplate caps for the edge of the shelves!

On the opposite wall I built some work benches - 8' x 2' and 5' x 2' with 41" inbetween for my Snap-On 40" roll cabinet. The cabinets are from Lowe's - unfinished raised panel oak, painted black (of course) with mirror finish treadplate inserts in the doors and on the cabinet ends to finish them. Special thanks to my friend Shane for suggesting the unfinished cabinets. I had seriously considered Gladiator, Craftsman, and several other metal cabinets, but they all just looked kinda cheap to me for the amount of money I was getting ready to lay out for them. These oak cabinets are solid, the doors are adjustable (had to have a straight line at the bottom of the doors!) and I think they ended up looking pretty good.

Well, with the black and orange and mirror treadplate I couldn't very well have plywood counter tops. Thanks to careful measuring and the skills of Chris Davis' guys at Midwest Sheet Metal and welding by Terry Brumley who owns Turners Station Welding, I have some beautiful 14ga stainless steel work surfaces now!

Looking great pops. Sorry I'm not closer to be able to come help. You know I'd love to. Just means once I am finished with my degrees I have to start building my own stuff (while calling you for advice ofcourse, and maybe some of the other shop builders on this site). :bounce:

Once complete, you should give Steve P a call. Have him come shoot a few finished pics with his Pro Canon. :bitchslap

Thanks son - I appreciate the help resizing the pics!

Far from finished, but getting there a little at a time. Still more to come - lighting and additional outlets, shelves and pegboard over the 8' bench, more paint, and finish the floor!

Can't begin to tell everyone just how much inspiration I got from this forum - thank you all!

Looking good.

Is that an actual Snappy compressor? I don't think I've seen one that small, but I've had my eye out for a new portable...?

The shop is looking good. Love the orange/black/silver combo on the walls and cabinets. You need to cover up that one yellow blob over the Snap-on box though. Maybe a nice Ford Racing banner.:D

That's all you've done?
LOL! Just kidding, nice work, looks great!

I think the garage door track shelving is a brilliant idea.

What made you decide to put the work bench along the side instead of along the back wall? I'm debating this also; Work bench in the back or along the side?

And of course, the obligatory "Post more pictures!"

Yes, that is an actual Snap-On compressor - 20 gal, 5hp piston type. I've had it 8 years now and it has been flawless. It would be nice to have some more volume ocassionally, but the quick recovery time almost makes up for the lack of volume.

That's all you've done?

The decision to go on a side wall instead of the front wall was an easy one in my situation. The garage is only 20' x 20' - my Chevy extended cab shortbed is 19' 4" - with a bump stop for the tire which puts the front bumper about 2" from the wall I can close the door........but I have to remember to take the trailer hitch out if I've been pulling the trailer or the door won't close!!

Thanks guys, I appreciate the comments - more pictures to come!

Garage looks great. The aluminum diamond plate is a little much for me, but to each his own.

I'm dealing with a small 2-car garage as well, 19'x21'. So I'm also planning on maximizing the space.

That's the second orange garage that I have seen on this site in two day. I showed the wife and ours might be in for a change this summer!!!
