More then likely made by Mtd. Probably has a Mtd brand engine instead of a Briggs or Kohler. The troy bilts usually have briggs and cubs Kohler. But I would say pumps, hydraulics and such are the same. Sold and worked on cub/troybilt spiltters for a few years. Only real problem I saw out of them was a coupling that broke but I think was abuse.
The other thing I would do is take the self taping bolts that hold the log support brackets on and drill the holes and put in grade 8 hardware.
