Yay new tools!!!!

Well a few more weeks and I graduate. Then I get to be a full-time heavy equipment mechanic and work the rest of my life. Anyways a couple weeks ago Snap-On Industrial had a sale at the school. So I got a bunch of stuff I needed. The discount was roughly 55% off list. I wish I could have gotten more at the prices they had, but I paid cash and I didn't want to use my credit card or start a credit account.

I got one of those 36 inch PRY-BARS after consulting with the GJ Braintrust, and I never regretted it. It is Freaking Awesome.

Congrats on finishing up school! Hope you made the best of it while you were in attendance there! Nice set of tools you got there, it's a good start!

I don't know about other schools, but at UTI, students get up to a 55% discount on SO (while in school) and will receive upon completion a $1000 (retail) starter kit as a graduation gift.

You got some nice stuff there & 55 % off. I like that 3/4 dr ratchet & 36" prybar. I wish you the best of luck with your career. In my opinion, you made a good decision not to buy on credit.

I too agree that the 3/4" ratchet is pretty impressive. I want one too!

I also want the 55% discount as well... MAN I could use that, especially since i pay for all of my **** in cash and I have been known to drop up to and including $700 per month on tools in fatter months funded by side jobs and trans work.

snapon and mac torque wrenches are sweet. I get to use them at school. if you dont mind me asking how much did all that run you with the discount? i think my school gets the same or similar discount

gratz,those angle wrenches are a must for some hard to reach hydro fittings on some heavy equipmnt

I like the torque wrench choice more durable and more reliable over time. I have the same 36" bar and head combo, plus the shorter 18" handle, you should have gotten your hands on the breaker bar attachment.

Not trying to go off topic, I went to trade school myself, and had a similar type of "sale". It's actually a marketing strategy, to get you into using their tools and what they have to offer, they want you as a life time customer, all truck brands are really only marketed to the working professional.....I can here future recites printing out.... just my two cents.

Do you have a job lined up? I've sold to the heavy construction industry for 25 years, and the mechanics almost always have work and overtime to boot. They are the last to get layed off and the first to come back, so you made a good career choice.

Warning: and I think other members will back me up. Work safe, lift smart and watch overdoing your back. Climb down off machinery, don' jump!
You can't make a living if you are hurt and heavy equipment can hurt you quick! I know a lot of old mechanics, many with bad knees and backs so take care of your body.

Yes I do have a job. They actually paid for my school so it was good deal. I am obligated to work for 2.5 years, but for the free education it is worth it.

The discount is normally 45% off through the Snap-On Industrial rep. The 55%off was a special thing they did for one day at the school. Either way it is worth it on some of the items to buy while you are in school. I have gotten some of my tools new cheaper than I see used ones go for on e-bay. Oh, I spent roughly $1250. I figured list total for everything is just under $2800.
